Thanksgiving Food Pantry Hours and Holiday Initiatives

As we conclude a semester filled with community care, the Center for Civic Leadership's wants to thank everyone who has supported initiatives so far!

Our Community Needs Hub (ground floor of Braddon Hall) is open through the week and will remain in operation over finals week and the winter break with reduced hours (we will list those once defined)

  • Food Pantry Requests can be completed at any time and staff will fill them and contact requesters once filled.

While many of our semester initiatives for service have concluded we still have a few more ways to give through the end of the semester!

  • Food Drive throughout November and early December!  To help meet the needs of students and our wider community our November Food Drive Campaign will continue into early December.  Thanks to collaborative efforts with the Veteran's United Club and National Association for Social Workers in Western NY we have already been able to deliver 6 full tote bags of goods to the Almond Pantry. For those interested in giving, we are seeking non-perishable food and hygiene items that we will use in both our on-campus student Food Pantry and to share with Alfred Area Food Pantry for this second collection period!
    • Donations can be dropped off in following locations:
      • Community Needs Hub (ground floor of Braddon Hall),
      • Donation bin on the 3rd floor of SLC between the double doors that face the spine of campus
      • Global Engagement and Civic Wellbeing Office (SLC 416)
  • Food for Fine Forgiveness Partnership runs for remainder of semester!
    • A collaborative program between the Criminal Justice Club, University Police, and Civic Leadership.  Students with a parking fine can donate $10 worth of non-perishable food (make sure it isn't expired or close to expiration date!) to the Criminal Justice Suite (SLC 411) or the Community Needs Hub (ground floor of Braddon) to "pay" for one parking fine (limit to one fine relief per student per semester). This initiative will run through to the end of the Fall semester.
  • Community Action Angels Toy and Spare Change Drive:
    • The Center for Civic Leadership and University Police are once again collecting new toys for ACCORD Community Action Angels for children 0-13 and spare change, to help fund gift cards for kids 13-18.  Toys can be dropped off in Cyan's office SLC 416 or with Brook Scianna in the Student Engagement Office, if your area would like to have a collection spot, please let me know and we can coordinate picking items up before delivering to Community Action Angels in early December.
  • Ardent Solutions Holiday Card Initiative:
    • We encourage, clubs, organizations, classes, or departments to get creative and create general season greeting cards to help bring some holiday cheer to folks in elder care/nursing home facilities.
    • The Center for Civic Leadership will collect cards until the 11th of December and deliver them to Ardent Solutions for their initiative on December 12th.

Again, gratful to all those who donated goods or extended helping hands this semester!

University Police

Community Action Angels – Holiday Fund Raising Initiatives:

University Police is again trying to raise money for ACCORD's Community Action Angels.

This year ACCORD is looking for cash donations to be turned into 50-dollar gift cards for children 10-18 years old and for children 0-9 new toy donations of any kind and value up to 50 dollars.

At this time, all donations can be dropped off at the University Police Department by Friday, December 2nd.

If you have any questions or would like to work on this initiative with the University Police Department, please contact Lt. Kris Bianchi (BianchKS@alfredstate.edu).

Your support goes a long way to help make the holiday season brighter throughout our community.
