MEGABUS for Friday, December 16, 2022

Megabus has informed Residential Services that the bus scheduled for Friday, December 16 has been rescheduled for Saturday, December 17 departing at 10 a.m. due to impending weather.

If you are affected by this change and need to stay Friday night into Saturday, please contact your building RD immediately. Residential Services will make accommodations for those students who are affected by this change from Megabus.

Please contact the office of Residential Services if you have any questions or concerns.

Campus Store Winter Hours

The Alfred Campus Store will close at 5PM on December 16th and will be open next week Monday (12/19) through Wednesday (12/21) 8am to 4pm.  We will be closed Thursday (12/22) through Monday (12/26).  The Wellsville Campus Store will close at 1PM on Friday December 16th and reopen Thursday January 19th.

Transition from Blackboard to myLearning

Alfred State will be saying goodbye to Blackboard and hello to myLearning beginning with winter 2022 courses.  From my.alfredstate.edu, click on the myLearning link to enter the new learning system.  You will soon find access to a student resource courses and your classes.  Please direct questions about myLearning to HelpDesk@alfredstate.edu. Virtual training will be offered for winter session students on December 27, 2022.  An email will be sent with information to join.  Many virtual and on campus sessions to learn will be available to students in the spring.

Finals week hours

The Technology Services Help Desk hours for Finals week will be as follows:

Monday:8 a.m. -8pm

Tuesday: 8 a.m.-8 p.m.

Wednesday: 8 a.m.- 8 p.m.

Thursday-8a.m- 6 pm

Friday 8 a.m.- 5 pm

Saturday-Closed

Sunday: Closed

 

The Engineering Plotter Room (ENG213) hours for Finals week will be as follows:

Monday: 8a.m -10 pm.

Tuesday: 8 a.m.-10 p.m.

Wednesday-8am-10 p.m.

Thursday 8.am-6pm

Friday 8am - 4pm

 

The plotter room will be closed until next semester.

Nominate for a Civic Engagement Award

College Council’s Leadership Through Civic Engagement Award

  • Who:  Anyone may nominate a student or faculty/staff member.  Faculty/staff service would need to be within the past two years 
  • Description:  College Council recognize members of the Alfred State community annually for leadership in civic engagement.  Background, instructions, and application found here (link here)
  • How to Nominate:  Use the online application
  • Recognition:  College Council selects up to 2 faculty/staff and unlimited # of deserving student awardees. Student awardees are recognized at Honors Convocation while faculty/staff awardees are recognized at the Reward & Recognition Luncheon.

**Be mindful and purchase your tickets early as Megabus tends to sell out quickly and we are not the only college in town!**

***If you purchase a bus ticket for Sunday, Dec 18th you will need to fill out the break housing application to remain on campus***

Bus services operate Monday through Sunday departing from Hornell, NY to New York City at 9:45 a.m.

Transportation to the Hornell, NY bus station will not be available unless Megabus is sold out for Dec 16 and 18.

 

Rochester Airport Shuttle:

  • Depart from Alfred, NY on Friday, December 16 at 6 a.m.
  • Depart from Alfred, NY on Saturday, December 17 at 6 a.m.

Technology Services - Hiring for Plotter Room Technician

What does Technology Services do?    The Technology Services Department provides comprehensive technology support for Alfred State. These services are provided by bringing together skills, knowledge, equipment to create an efficient and effective organization with a customer centered view.

The Technology Services Department provides skills and equipment availability that facilitate the learning process at the curriculum, student, faculty, and staff member level; with a goal of developing and maintaining the College's reputation as a leading college of technology.

The goal of the members of the department is to deliver successful solutions to all of our clients by seeking to understand their needs and to always attempt to exceed their expectations.

Some of the things Plotter Room Technicians and Print Center Proctors assist with are:

  • Installing print drivers
  • Choosing a paper type
  • Choosing an appropriate printer for a specific print job
  • Printing and releasing print jobs
  • Changing paper and toner
  • Removing jams from printers

Basic printer troubleshooting
