$4000 "You Can't Label People, but You Can Label Things" Essay Scholarship
The “You Can’t Label People, but You Can Label Things” Scholarship by Sttark awards $4,000 to a U.S. student pursuing a creative field of study who demonstrates ingenuity and originality through an essay and label design. Sttark is excited to invest in creative young people, regardless of their cultural, economic, or educational backgrounds. Any high school senior, undergraduate, or graduate student from the U.S. is eligible to apply. Applicants are asked to create a 1,000-word essay and label design that illustrate the theme of the scholarship--products can be labeled but people can’t. Winners will be awarded for their imagination and great ideas, not their academic merit. All submissions must be received by November 30, 2022. Emergency Drill August 31st - University Police
ALERT: Emergency Drill
Wednesday, August 31, 2020, at 10:10 a.m.
Alfred State will be conducting the drill to test its emergency procedures & systems on the Alfred Campus only.
During the drill – actively shelter-in-place to a location where you can:
- Lock or block the door
- Darken the room
- Silence cell phones
- Move to the safest wall (where you are out of sight)
- Strategize and coordinate with persons with you about what to do if your door is entered by a threat. Identify 2-4 “contact” persons who will volunteer to actively assist in getting the threat to the floor where they are unable to continue their actions.

Student Vehicle Permits This Week
Students already on campus this week may stop into University Police to pick up their vehicle parking permit between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Beginning next week permits will be available (M-F) 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. for beginning the week of August 22nd.
Room Selection and Housing Preference Form Information
Room Selection and Housing Preference Form
As of May 31, 2022 the individual room selection process for new and returning students has ended. If you currently do not have a housing selection for the fall 2022 semester, you will need to fill out a housing preference form. This form is linked on your student portal. Please follow these steps to locate and complete the form:
1) Log into my.alfredstate.edu
2) Select “Sign Up for Housing”
3) Fill in relevant information and rank your buildings of preference
a. This is also where you can request a change in your current housing assignment to a new building.
After the form is completed, the Office of College Housing reviews these requests and place students who do not have an assignment first and then reviews room change requests. Please note that this information is collected and used as a preference, there is no guarantee that you will be placed in the building that you selected. The Office of College Housing will try to place you in your top choices if space is available. If not, a building with a similar lifestyle option will be selects for you.

Looking for a job on campus?
Are you looking for a job on campus? We are looking for reliable student employees to provide support for our Student Leadership Center and Pioneer Student Union buildings for the Fall 2022 semester. These buildings are staffed beginning at 7AM until Midnight and 7 days per week, so applicants must be available to work shifts during those times. Support includes doing hourly rounds of the buildings and working with the professionals that have offices in the spaces. Tasks could include running errands, directing students and guests that have questions, and helping to support events happening during your shifts to name a few. This position may require light lifting and some moving/readjusting of furniture during building rounds. Instrumental Music is Looking for New Members
Do you play an instrument? Would you like to start playing again or try something new? Come join Instrumental Music! We are a looking for new members to join this fall. Any skill level is welcome and school instruments are available. All music is picked by members of the group. There is one concert near the end of each semester. Rehearsals take place Wednesday and Thursday nights, 5:30-7pm. First rehearsal date to be announced. New Student Move In Volunteers Needed
The Office of Residential Services is looking for clubs/organizations to volunteer and assist first year students move into their residence halls from Monday, August 22 to Wednesday, August 24 between 8 am 12 pm and 1 pm – 4 pm. This is a great opportunity to move back to campus prior to Week of Welcome activities, community services hours, rushing, and recruiting for your club/organization. Clubs/Organizations selected to assist with new student move in will be permitted to move into their fall 2022 housing assignment on Sunday, August 21. In addition, the dining facilities on campus will not open until Monday, August 22 so students that move in on August 21 will need to make arrangements for their own meals.
Please note, filling out this form does not guarantee that you or your organization will be selected to move in early and assist with new student move in or have the partner organization they requested. The representative that fills out the form below will be contacted for additional information and be provided move in details.

We currently have our Vice President of Finance and Vice President of Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging positions open.
The Vice President of Finance for the Student Senate shall be the organization’s Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer and a member of the Executive Board of the Student Senate. While being the chair of the Finance Committee, this position will be responsible for the accurate keeping of financial records of Student Senate funds review and sign all requests to expenditure funds from the Student Activities Fee according to SUNY Policy or assign a designee to-do so.
The Vice President of Inclusion & Belonging for the Student Senate is responsible for the exchange of information and the initiation of projects and problem-solving pertaining to ever-increasingly culturally diverse campus community. They are responsible for the exchange of information and the initiation of projects and problem-solving pertaining to the Center for Equity, Inclusion & Title IX.
