Parking Lots 3 (by SLC/UPD/TH's) and 35 (next to Burdick) Closing at 4pm Today - University Police

Parking Lots 3 (by SLC/UPD/TH's) and 35 (next to Burdick) will be closing at 4pm today, Thursday, April 18th. Parking Lot 3 will remain closed into the weekend until the Hot Dog Day Carnival has cleared out. Parking lot 35 will remain closed through the day on Friday, April 19th for a large number of admissions visitors. Students and visitors that are required to move their vehicles should park in any other residential student parking lot. If you happen to move your vehicle across the street into parking lot 4 (10 Elm), just be advised, that lot will not be available starting at 4pm on Friday, April 19th. 

There is always available parking in lots 19, 20, 20a (near the Pioneer Stadium) or parking lot 31 (which can be accessed behind Peet Hall). 

Vehicles that remain in closed parking lots, or re-enter after the closing time are subject to enforcement up to and including towing at the owner’s expense. Please continue to monitor your daily announcements, as there will be many parking lot closures coming up.

Parking Lot 4 (10 Elm) Closing at 4pm Friday the 19th - University Police

Parking Lot 4 (10 Elm) will be closing at 4pm on Friday, April 19th for Hot Dog Day festivities on the 20th. Students and visitors that are required to move their vehicles may park in any other parking lots that are not closed down for events on campus throughout the weekend. All students must be back in the appropriate residential student parking lots by 8pm on Sunday, April 21st. If you remain in Commuter or Faculty and Staff parking after 8pm on the 21st you may receive a parking summons. 

Vehicles that remain in closed parking lots, or re-enter after the closing time are subject to enforcement up to and including towing at the owner’s expense.

Please spread the word to your fellow classmates and continue to monitor your daily announcements, as there will be many parking lot closures throughout the academic year.

Earth Day Events – April 22nd

In celebration of Earth Day, the Center for Civic Leadership is hosting a series of events throughout the day on Monday, April 22nd in the SLC Small Events Space.

  • 12:30-1:30pm – Viewing The True Cost, a documentary exploring both the human and environmental cost of clothing.
  • 2-3:30pm – Viewing live stream of Verdant Views: Global Climate Stories. This webinar will feature some of the international Fellows in Cornell University’s Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship, providing insights into challenges they face in their home countries as they relate to climate change and the choices and actions they are making in response to the global climate crisis. 
  • 5-6pm - Celebrating campus makers who have assembled outfits for our first ever Trashion fashion showcase. Those who create for the event are constructing items out of 90% post-consumer materials. From upcycled garments to cardboard creations we are looking forward to seeing what people have created in the spirit of sustainability as we foster awareness around consumer waste. 

Light refreshments, Earth Day / Environmental resources, and crafting opportunities will be available throughout the day’s events.

Summer Bill and Financial Aid

Summer course registration is now available!  

 

  • Students interested in using financial aid to pay their Summer Semester bill, should complete the 24-25 FAFSA and the Summer Aid Application after they register for Summer and Fall (if applicable) classes. Due to FAFSA processing delays, Summer aid requests will not be reviewed until the first week in May. Students will receive an email once reviewed.  
  • If students register for any Summer courses that start on May 28th, the bill for all sessions registered is due Thursday, May 16th at 4 pm.  Students who do not process their bill by the due date may have their courses dropped for non-payment.  
  • Bills are available at my.AlfredState.edu/finances; by selecting the “Pay/View Your Bill” icon; and then Summer 2024.  Payment Plan options will be available through June 24th.

Gender Inclusive Housing Application

Gender Inclusive Housing Application is now open for the 2024-2025 academic year.

Gender Inclusive Housing is a housing option that allows individuals who are not the same gender, who may identify outside of the gender binary (male or female), who may be questioning aspects of their sexuality/gender or who may be in the process (or completed) a gender transition to live in an environment that is safe and supportive.

Summer 2024 Break Housing Application

Summer 2024 Break Housing Application Now Open!!!

Residence halls will close at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, for the Spring Break. The Residence halls will reopen for fall 2024 on August 22. Residential Services is aware that the final bus scheduled to leave Alfred leaves Sunday, May 12 at 7:45 a.m. 

Only students who have been approved to stay for the break will be allowed in the residence halls.

All others may be charged with trespassing.

Students will only be approved who:

  • Live over 500 miles away (according to your home Banner Address)
  • International Student
  • Athletic Commitment during the break (will be verified with Athletics)
  • Have a Special Circumstance (ex. You do not have a place to go)
  • Working for the college during the break (with Supervisors Approval)
  • Taking summer classes (will need to confirm with your academic advisor and/or class professor)

If you wish to apply to stay for the break, please complete the "Summer Break Housing Request" form on eRezLife. To access this form, please sign in to my.alfredstate.edu, select "Housing," and then select the "Summer Break Housing Request" form. 

Please note, that this form will close at Noon on Monday, May 6. 

Prior to leaving for summer break please be sure to: 

  • Remove all your belongings.
  • Check out of your room with the RA staff.
  • Sweep out the room (there should be a broom available in the staff office)
  • Turn in your room key with the RA staff.

Your room will be inspected by a member of the Residential Life staff to ensure windows and blinds/ shades are closed and your room door is locked. Please notify your Resident Assistant of an approximate time you will be leaving campus. 

**Please be aware that there will be a cost of $50.00 per week to reside on campus over the summer**

What To Do With Your Left Over Eclipse Glasses

If you have left over eclipse glasses, bring them down to the Hinkle Library! We are planning to send all the undamaged glasses we can get to Eclipse Glasses USA. From there they will be sent to children in countries that might not have easy access to eclipse glasses. This is just in time for the Eclipse that will pass through Chile and Argentina later this year.

Eclipse glasses can be left at the Hinkle Library information desk and will be collected until May 6th.

NYC Bus Trip - April 27th

NYS Bus Trip sponsored by Student Senate. 

Tickets are $40 and can be purchased at the campus store. Seating is limited so pick yours up fast.

The bus will pick students up from the SLC parking lot at 5:00am and arrive at the New York Public Library at approximately 10:45am.

The bus will leave from the New York Public Library at 8:00pm and arrive back to Alfred at approximately 1:45am. 

Students interested in going must purchase their ticket by Wednesday, April 24th. Be aware that all students attending must provide their own funds to purchase food and other desires during their trip.

Selecting your Room! 

Room selection will begin April 1, 2024 for students whose tuition deposit is received by March 26.  

For those who have not paid their tuition deposit by March 26, room selection will begin on April 15, 2024. 

You will need to have your housing application completed in order to select your room! 

Selecting your room instructions:

  1. Log into your my.alfredstate.edu
  2. Select the “Housing” icon
  3. Return to "Housing Overview" 
  4.  Select the green "Browse Rooms"
  5. You can search for specific rooms by building/section and/or other residence preferences set up. This may take a couple of attempts pending on your preferences and room availability. "No bed available" will appear if there is not a room available through the preferences you set up. 
  6. Click the "bed" icon to select your room of choice. 
  7. Dialog window will be prompted with details of the selected room. 
  8. Click the "choose this bed" button
  9. Review the details of your room reservation. Click on "Assign me now" to confirm your assignment.  Click the "look at other rooms" link to browse other rooms. 

Please note individual room selection will close on August 1, 2024

REV+FLOW Thursdays 5 - 6 pm

REV+FLOW on Thursdays!! Join us for this FREE fitness class for students, faculty and staff on Thursdays from 5 - 6 pm in The Studio at the Pioneer Center. Experience what your body can do through functional mobility including strength, toning, balance, and flexibility. REV+FLOW is high intensity and low impact using light hand weights (optional) and yoga mats, which are provided at the Studio.
