Student Announce November 17, 2023

Corral of Care

Stop by the SLC Green Space today from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. to visit the pop-up Corral of Care, meet some new barnyard friends, and de-stress!

We care about you and hope you’ll find a few minutes to swing by to say hello to the mystery animals who want to meet you!

The event is sponsored by your friends in the Ag and Vet Tech program, Health & Wellness Services, Dr. Carrie Cokely (Vice President for Academic Affairs), and Dr. Greg Sammons (Vice President for Student and Employee Affairs).

Food for Fine Forgiveness Program

In partnership with UPD, Student Senate, and Civic Leadership we have created a Day of Giving program to help all our students.  If you currently have an outstanding parking ticket you can drop off a minimum donation of $10 of non-perishable, not expired, food items at the Civic Leadership Table in SLC between 12 pm and 2 PM November 13th-17th and provide the workers with your name and 800# for identification of your ticket. Donations can only be made to Civic Leadership Staff, NOT at the University Police office. You can have ONE previously issued parking ticket dismissed. This will benefit the Community Needs Hub for students. If you are unable to meet with civic leadership staff during their tabling hours in SLC this week you can email ThePlate@alfredstate.edu to coordinate a different drop-off time/location with Staff. If emailing, please make sure you reference the Food for Fine Forgiveness Program in your subject line.

Alternative Spring Break Applications Are Now Open!

Winter is coming, and the Civic Leadership team is celebrating by thinking ahead to Spring Break! Do you love giving back to communities in need and soaking up some sunshine when the snow just won’t let go? If so, this spring break service trip could be perfect for you! The application for our Alternative Spring Break trip is now open!

We will once again be traveling to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina to work with Habitat for Humanity during our 2024 spring break (March 10th-March 16th).  If you are interested in learning more or wish to be considered for the trip, we invite you to visit our Civic Engagement Pioneer page to submit your application. While we open this opportunity up for student volunteers, we welcome interested faculty/staff to also reach out in case we have need for additional chaperone support.

Not sure if this trip is for you, please help us spread the word to others regarding this wonderful opportunity to take part in Habitat for Humanity’s Collegiate Challenge event so we can send a rock-star group of Alfred State Pioneers to support some community wellbeing down south!

We have limited spaces available and will be finalizing our cohort shortly after Thanksgiving Break! Should you have any questions, please reach out to Cyan Corwine (corwincy@alfredstate.edu)
