Sweeney Todd Tickets Now On Sale

The Alfred State Drama Club is proud to announce that Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street tickets are now on sale at the campus bookstore and can be purchased with cash, card, or CSA!

$5 for students and $10 for General Admission.

Parking Lot Closure 11/4

Parking lot #20 will be CLOSED beginning at 4pm on FRIDAY NOVEMBER 4TH. The lot will remain closed until Saturday morning at which time it will be re-opened for those that wish to tailgate before the game. Students that are being required to move may park in any open STUDENT lot between 4pm on 11/4 and the conclusion of the football game. Parking lot 20 will reopen upon completion of the game.

 

Vehicles that remain in closed parking lots, or re-enter after the closing time, are subject to enforcement up to and including towing at the owners expense.


Disaster Relief Trip: Call for Volunteers

Interested in volunteering over winter break?  A team is being formed to travel to Port Charlotte, FL December 17-22 to provide support to communities in need.  Hurricane Ian hit the west coast of Florida at a Category 4 strength on 9/28 causing devastating impacts along the coast  along with catastrophic flooding further inland.  In collaboration with long time partner All Hands & Hearts, this team will continue efforts in debris removal and general cleanup.  Cost for students is $100.  Apply now at https://forms.office.com/r/AZUJwWYRKP.  Invitations to join the team will be sent out around 11/14.  


Orvis Gym Closed Saturday November 5 - 6, 2022

The Orvis Gymnasium will not be available for public use from 8:00 AM Saturday November 5 through 4:00 PM Sunday November 6.

XAE Poinsettia Sale!

It is time to think about decorating for the Holidays! Order a beautiful 6 inch red poinsettia to support Chi Alpha Epsilon (XAE) - the EOP Honor Society. Also available this season will be traditional decorated red wreaths!!! Wreaths are in limited supply (20 maximum this year) so orders will be first come, first serve through the online order form only! This fundraiser will cover the Induction packets for our Spring 2023 Inductees! The sale runs from Tuesday, November 8th through Monday, November 21st. Pick up or arranged deliver will take place starting December 1st. There will be links for both poinsettias ($15 each) and wreaths ($35 each) starting on the 8th, so make sure to check Announcements next week! Leadership Suite Applications are now open

Do you belong to a club or organization actively involved in making a difference in the larger community? Are you solving problems, taking on opportunities, and using your passion and skills to help others? This could take the form of volunteerism, community service trips, public awareness campaigns, fundraising efforts, advocacy, and education.

If so, we invite you to view our Civic Engagement Pioneer page to submit a Leadership Suite proposal. Leadership Suites are designed to celebrate and get others involved in community-minded causes and initiatives locally, regionally, and/or globally. 

Suite applications must be submitted by November 18th, 2022, to be considered for Spring 2023.

Alternative Spring Break Applications Are Now Open!

Winter is coming, and the Office of Global and Civic Wellbeing is celebrating by thinking about Civic Engagement and Spring Break! Do you love giving back to communities in need and soaking up some sunshine when the snow just won’t let go? If so, this spring break service trip could be perfect for you! The application for our Alternative Spring Break trip is now open! We will once again be traveling to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina to work with Habitat for Humanity during spring break (March 12th-March 18th).  If you are interested in learning more or wish to be considered for the trip, we invite you to visit our Civic Engagement Pioneer page to submit your application

Vice President of Commuter Affairs of Student Senate Position is Open!

Interested in politics? Want to be more involved on campus? Join Student Senate and be a voice for the student body! We need individuals that want to improve our campus!

We currently have our Vice President of Commuter Affairs position open. 

Some of the requirements for this position are –

  • Every Tuesday Availability from 5 pm to 8 pm for our Executive Board Meeting and General Assembly.
  • Ideally some experience in programming events for the student body. (If not, guidance will be provided throughout the tenure)
  • This position is designed only for commuters.
  • It is a paid position with the pay of $14/hour.

Vice President of Commuter Affairs for the Student Senate is responsible for the exchange of information and the initiation of projects and problem-solving pertaining to Commuter Life. Only a Commuter Student can serve in this position. They shall co-chair the  Commuter Council and they are responsible for establishing strong communication links with the Asst.  Director of College Housing and Judicial Affairs. This chair should act as one of the Student Senate  representatives on the Faculty Senate Student Life Committee. This chair will serve as the liaison to Greek Senate. They shall also meet or exceed the expectations set forth for the members of the Executive  Board of the Student Senate within the Policies and Procedures of the organization.

A teacher that stays involved with students long after the class is over? The Chancellor’s Award committee is asking for your help, and you can make a difference in just a few short minutes!  

The Chancellor’s Awards for Excellence in Teaching, Faculty Service or Scholarship and Creative Activities, Distinguished Professorship, Distinguished Service Professor, and Distinguished Teaching Professor are SUNY System-level honors conferred to acknowledge and provide system-wide recognition for consistently superior professional achievement. 

Nominations for these Chancellor’s Awards are now being accepted by the Faculty Senate Chancellor’s Awards committee for teaching faculty. Students, staff, faculty, or administrators may nominate individuals for this award. Transport Team Positions Open

Residential Services in conjunction with Health & Wellness is looking to hire 6 Motor Vehicle Operator positions for the Transport Team. 

Minimum Qualifications: 

Candidates must possess a New York State Driver's License appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated, valid for a minimum of one year, have a clean driving record, and be able to lift a minimum of 20 pounds.  Candidates will be required to complete the LENS Driving Certification. 

The Campus Transport team is a part of the Residential Services department within the Division of Student Affairs at Alfred State. It is composed of a dedicated, student-oriented group of professionals who create an environment conducive to learning about oneself, the community, and society. We provide learning opportunities, skill development, and personal contacts that foster a successful, well-balanced, and fulfilling life experience for the students of Alfred State and our community.

Students who live on campus and are hired for this position also receive half-room compensation!

Thanksgiving Break Housing Application

Residence halls will close at 10:00pm on Tuesday November 22, 2022, for the Thanksgiving Break. The Residence halls will reopen at Noon on Sunday November 27, 2022. Residential Services is aware that the final bus scheduled to leave Alfred leaves before 10:00pm. If you are here for an Academic reason and cannot make the bus, please contact your Residence Director to remain on campus the evening of Tuesday, November 22. However, you must plan travel arrangements for the morning of Wednesday, November 23.

 

Only students who have been approved to stay for the break will be allowed in the residence halls.

All others may be charged with trespassing.

 

Students will only be approved who:

• Live over 500 miles away (according to your home Banner Address)

• Have a Special Circumstance (ex. You do not have a place to go)

• Working for the college during the break (with Supervisors Approval)

• Part an official athletic team, listed on the Roster received from Athletics, and have practice or a game during the break
