Campus Campout - 4/26

You don't want to miss this! Come join us for a relaxing overnight at our campus campout at Lake Lodge on Friday, April 26 from 7pm to April 27 at 8am! Meet at the rock wall at 7pm to be picked up. 

We have 20 tents that hold two people each (allowing 40 guests), tents must only be shared with people who identify as the same gender & must both be in agreement on sharing the tent. (Email Calsey Bump at Bumpce@alfredstate.edu with your "tent buddy"). Please make sure to bring your own blankets, personal items, warm clothes, outdoor shoes, & more! We will have activities, games, music, drinks, snacks, s'mores, and more.

Midnight Breakfast - May 5

Kick off finals week with a Midnight Breakfast served by your faculty & staff on Sunday, May 5 from 10PM-12AM in the Terrace, CDH. This is the time to take a quick break from studying and enjoy a meal & conversations with friends and professionals. This breakfast is meant to help you relax and destress from finals. If you have a meal plan it will be one meal swipe; however, if you do not, you are still welcome as you will get a meal voucher!

Center for Extended Learning offers Summer CNA Training Program!

Secure your first step into the nursing field with the Certified Nursing Aide (CNA) training program through the Center for Extended Learning.  In just three weeks (May 20 - June 7) gain the knowledge and skills to be work ready!  CNA's can earn $18-$25/hour depending on location.  

Cost:  $1500

Students have option to live on campus for an additional $50/week.

Calling All Commuter Students!

Calling all commuters! The Commuter Council will be sponsoring a Taco Bar & ACES Overview Munch & Mingle for all commuter students on Thursday, April 25 from 11am – 1pm in the Central Dining Hall, Student Gathering Space (conference room next to the Terrace). Our ACES representatives, will give an overview on the resources and opportunities that are available to you while you enjoy a free lunch!

Residential Programmer Position Availability for Fall 24-Spring 25

The office of Student Engagement & Residential Services is hiring Residential Programmer positions for the 24-25 academic year. These positions are rewarding as you are able to help first-year students with their transition to Alfred State and help build community amongst the residents in the first-year residence halls! Your cumulative GPA must be 2.25+ and compensation for this role is your residence hall payment will be waived! Here is the link to apply, https://forms.office.com/r/mvV1BWUkdn

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  1. Attend building staff meetings on a weekly basis and First Year Residential Programmer meetings on a bi-weekly basis.
  2. Attend one on one meetings with their supervisors on a bi-weekly basis.
  3. Work in conjunction with the Assistant Director of First-Year Engagement and their Residence Director/ Area Coordinator to create, market, coordinate, set-up, clean, and assess events and programming efforts throughout the residence hall.
  4. Attend and facilitate weekly events and Hall Council efforts in the residence hall.
  5. Serve as the Junior Advisor to Hall Council.
  6. Foster relationships throughout the residence hall through community meetings, hall council, and events.
  7. Take at least 3 residents to an event at least once a week.
  8. Complete 5 office hours a week.
  9. Develop and create “Stall Stories” on a monthly basis.

Graduation Packet Pick-Up!

Students can now pick up their graduation packet at the Alfred Campus Store or Wellsville Campus Store during regular store hours. Students that would like to attend commencement and have not paid the commencement fee,  would need to pay $60 at the time of picking up their graduation packet.  Bachelor students will need to purchase an academic hood from the Campus Store(additional $30).  If you are an online student or not on campus this semester, please call the Alfred Campus Store, 607-587-4020, to have your graduation package shipped to you (shipping charges will apply).

May Graduates Diploma Policy

Attention May graduates.  In accordance with SUNY policy, if you have any financial obligations with Alfred State or have not returned all equipment or supplies borrowed from the college, such as library books, athletic equipment, etc., your diploma will be held until you pay your balance or return the borrowed equipment/supplies. Please view and pay your hold(s) as soon as possible to ensure your diploma is issued timely and you receive recognition of your important academic achievements. If you have questions regarding your hold(s), contact the appropriate office as indicated on the “hold screen”.

Parking Lots 20 (by Pioneer Stadium) & 22 (by Orvis) Closing at 4pm the 23rd - University Police

Parking Lots 20 (top lot by the Pioneer Stadium) & 22 (top lot by Orvis) will be closing at 4pm on Tuesday, April 23rd. The lots will remain closed through the day on the 24th for an Accepted Student Day event. Students that are required to move should park in any other residential student parking lot. This does not include commuter student parking lots. 

Please keep in mind, there is always available parking in parking lot 31 (which can be accessed behind Peet Hall). Vehicles that remain in closed parking lots, or re-enter after the closing time are subject to enforcement up to and including towing at the owner’s expense. Please spread the word and continue to monitor your daily announcements.

Time to get your pups a spring cleaning!!!

We are happy to announce that the Veterinary Technology Club is hold a SPRING DOG WASH EVENT!  Let us get your pup cleaned up for the spring!

When: April 27th

Time: 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM

Where: the HOPR on the front of the SLC building.

Pricing: Please be aware that this is a basic bath-no detangling/dematting or clipping will be performed. This event is for well behaved dogs only-sorry no cats or dogs with aggression issues.  Dogs must be on a leash and should be up to date on vaccinations.

  • $15 wash, nail trim, and ear cleaning
  • $ 5 nail trim
  • $ 5 ear cleaning

Funds will help us with club events and donations worthy events/programs involving animals

Summer Bill and Financial Aid

Summer course registration is now available!  

 

  • Students interested in using financial aid to pay their Summer Semester bill, should complete the 24-25 FAFSA and the Summer Aid Application after they register for Summer and Fall (if applicable) classes. Due to FAFSA processing delays, Summer aid requests will not be reviewed until the first week in May. Students will receive an email once reviewed.  
  • If students register for any Summer courses that start on May 28th, the bill for all sessions registered is due Thursday, May 16th at 4 pm.  Students who do not process their bill by the due date may have their courses dropped for non-payment.  
  • Bills are available at my.AlfredState.edu/finances; by selecting the “Pay/View Your Bill” icon; and then Summer 2024.  Payment Plan options will be available through June 24th.

Esports Room Open Hours

Esports will be hosting Open Hours in SLC 319 starting Friday, April 5, and ending on Sunday, May 5. Feel free to stop by the room to play some of the games we have on the computers or play your own!

Open Hours will be as follows:

Saturdays: 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Paws For a Cause

The Vet Tech Club and their Opt to Adopt Suite are happy to announce that for the month of April they are partnering with the Allegany County SPCA for their Paws for a Cause event.  Students will be in the SLC selling paw prints for $1 each that you can put your name on and we will post.  If we can earn $500 the SPCA has a matching donor that will bring the total up to $1000! Don't have cash-There is also a QR code at our table and the Suite where you can donate!

What To Do With Your Left Over Eclipse Glasses

If you have left over eclipse glasses, bring them down to the Hinkle Library! We are planning to send all the undamaged glasses we can get to Eclipse Glasses USA. From there they will be sent to children in countries that might not have easy access to eclipse glasses. This is just in time for the Eclipse that will pass through Chile and Argentina later this year.

Eclipse glasses can be left at the Hinkle Library information desk and will be collected until May 6th.

Gender Inclusive Housing Application is now open for the 2024-2025 academic year.

Gender Inclusive Housing is a housing option that allows individuals who are not the same gender, who may identify outside of the gender binary (male or female), who may be questioning aspects of their sexuality/gender or who may be in the process (or completed) a gender transition to live in an environment that is safe and supportive.

Summer 2024 Break Housing Application

Summer 2024 Break Housing Application Now Open!!!

Residence halls will close at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, for the Spring Break. The Residence halls will reopen for fall 2024 on August 22. Residential Services is aware that the final bus scheduled to leave Alfred leaves Sunday, May 12 at 7:45 a.m. 

Only students who have been approved to stay for the break will be allowed in the residence halls.

All others may be charged with trespassing.

Students will only be approved who:

  • Live over 500 miles away (according to your home Banner Address)
  • International Student
  • Athletic Commitment during the break (will be verified with Athletics)
  • Have a Special Circumstance (ex. You do not have a place to go)
  • Working for the college during the break (with Supervisors Approval)
  • Taking summer classes (will need to confirm with your academic advisor and/or class professor)

If you wish to apply to stay for the break, please complete the "Summer Break Housing Request" form on eRezLife. To access this form, please sign in to my.alfredstate.edu, select "Housing," and then select the "Summer Break Housing Request" form. 

Please note, that this form will close at Noon on Monday, May 6. 

Prior to leaving for summer break please be sure to: 

  • Remove all your belongings.
  • Check out of your room with the RA staff.
  • Sweep out the room (there should be a broom available in the staff office)
  • Turn in your room key with the RA staff.

Your room will be inspected by a member of the Residential Life staff to ensure windows and blinds/ shades are closed and your room door is locked. Please notify your Resident Assistant of an approximate time you will be leaving campus. 

**Please be aware that there will be a cost of $50.00 per week to reside on campus over the summer**

“Depolarization Within” Workshop – April 27th from 9am – 12pm

The Department of Social & Behavioral Sciences at Alfred State College, with support from the Center for Civic Leadership, presents the 2024 Dr. Khalid Ashraf Memorial Symposium, which has the goal of engaging Alfred State students in contemporary issues impacting their lives, now and in the future. 

This year’s program is a workshop led by two facilitators from Braver Angels, which is a non-profit organization dedicated to political depolarization. In this workshop, participants will learn how to focus on shared values, bridge political differences, and challenge existing stereotypes about their political opponents.

  • Time:  9 am – 12 pm 
  • Location: Allegany Room of the Central Dining Hall.

Selecting your Room! 

Room selection will begin April 1, 2024 for students whose tuition deposit is received by March 26.  

For those who have not paid their tuition deposit by March 26, room selection will begin on April 15, 2024. 

You will need to have your housing application completed in order to select your room! 

Selecting your room instructions:

  1. Log into your my.alfredstate.edu
  2. Select the “Housing” icon
  3. Return to "Housing Overview" 
  4.  Select the green "Browse Rooms"
  5. You can search for specific rooms by building/section and/or other residence preferences set up. This may take a couple of attempts pending on your preferences and room availability. "No bed available" will appear if there is not a room available through the preferences you set up. 
  6. Click the "bed" icon to select your room of choice. 
  7. Dialog window will be prompted with details of the selected room. 
  8. Click the "choose this bed" button
  9. Review the details of your room reservation. Click on "Assign me now" to confirm your assignment.  Click the "look at other rooms" link to browse other rooms. 

Please note individual room selection will close on August 1, 2024
