Week of Welcome Club/Organization Programming Application | 2025

Calling all clubs & organizations! Before you leave for your well deserved summer break, please ensure that you fill out the Week of Welcome programming application by Friday, May 9 at 4PM. If we do not receive this form or communication, you will not be permitted to program during these events. In addition, this application does not guarantee you a spot, or guarantee the time you requested due to mandatory events during these large-scale programs. Please ensure you read the instructions carefully included in the form. You will receive your decision by June 27, 2025.

Performing Arts Spring Concert

Alfred State Performing Arts are presenting their annual Spring Concert on Saturday, May 3rd at 11:00pm in the Cappadonia Auditorium in the Orvis Activities Building. Come support the students in Instrumental Music and Voices. We hope to see you there!

Donations to the Mary Cariola Center will be gladly accepted after the concert. The Mary Cariola Center is a regional leader in education and life skills solutions. They serve hundreds of children and young adults with complex disabilities each year through academic, residential, and community outreach programs.

'Start Finals Prep Now' Workshop

The Student Success Center will be hosting the Start Finals Prep Now Workshop on Wednesday, April 30th at 5pm in the Student Development Center, Room 109. Start Finals Prep Now will help prepare students for Final Exams. Students will learn the different stages of exam prep that includes before, during and after checklists, the study cycle, and mistakes to avoid in order to do their very best on Final Exams. In addition, students will learn strategies to address the causes of testing anxiety and leave with an individualized plan to overcome their own personal test taking anxieties.

Gamma Theta Gamma and Pi Nu Epsilon Clothing Drive for Hearts for the Homeless and ACCORD

Gamma Theta Gamma and Pi Nu Epsilon would like to invite everyone on and off campus to come down to the SLC Park Space to donate any lightly used clothing to give back to those in the community. Any and all donations will be made to Hearts for the Homeless and ACCORD.

Parking Lot Closures -5/2 at 4pm - University Police

Student parking lots 20, 20A & 22 (near Pioneer Stadium/Orvis) and Faculty & Staff parking lots 21, 23 & 26 (near Orvis) will be closed Friday May 2nd from 4pm through the completion of the Honor Convocation late Sunday afternoon. Lots 23 & 26 will be designated for accessibility parking. If you are traveling and leaving a vehicle on campus for the weekend, please make sure that it is moved out of the closed lots before you leave. Students may park in any other open lots over the weekend but must be back in the appropriate student parking before Monday morning at 7am. 

Vehicles that remain in closed parking lots or re-enter after the closing time are subject to enforcement up to and including towing at the owner's expense.

Terra Cotta Design Studio: Alfred State and Alfred University Collaboration Presentation

Everyone is invited to attend a presentation of final projects by 17 students from both Alfred University and Alfred State College. The projects are focused on innovative uses of terra cotta. Inspired by Alfred’s terra cotta history, the students have spent the semester learning about it as a material and interacting with many who work with it professionally. The projects range from artistic, to conceptual, to practical. The event is free, and the students look forward to sharing their work with the community. Alfred State Students focused on designing and crafting Terra Cotta tiles.

UUP Taking Action on Social Issues in Higher Ed

United University Professions stands with ALL students and ALL staff at ALL colleges in SUNY - and really every educational institution worldwide.  At our statewide website, there is a plethora of information on the myriad ways in which UUP and YOU can engage and take action. (Including a list of local rallies taking place for May Day - May 1st)

Esports Room Open Hours

Have a bit of downtime between classes? Come down to the Esports rooms in SLC 202 and 319! All students are welcome to utilize our gaming PCs during our hosted Open Hours noted below. Students are welcome to play any of the games we have on the computers or work with our staff to include games you would like to see available.

Summer Closing and Travel Information

The residence halls close Saturday, May 10th at 7:30 pm, so all students will need to be out of the residence halls at that time.  If you need to stay past the closing time, please email your Resident Director or Area Coordinator with the reason you need to stay to request approval to stay late. 

Need to stay for Summer? 

Only students who have been approved to stay for the break will be allowed in the residence halls after that time. All others may be charged with trespassing.

There is a $50 charge per week for summer housing. Payments must be paid within 30 days of your bill, any remaining amount at the end of the summer will be placed onto your student account in the form of a hold. Additional information on acceptable payment methods and payment locations will be provided to those approved for summer break housing. 

Students will only be approved who:

  • Live over 500 miles away (according to your home Banner Address)
  • Have a Special Circumstance (ex. You do not have a place to go, homeless, etc.)
  • Working for the college during the break (with Supervisors Approval)
  • Have an athletic commitment (with Athletics approval)
  • International Student
  • Taking summer classes (will be confirmed with your academic advisor and/or class professor)

If you wish to apply for break housing, please complete the "Summer Break Housing Request" form on eRezLife. To access eRezLife, log into your my.alfredstatet.edu and select the "Choose Housing and Meal Plan" option.

Please note that the application closes at 3:00 pm on Monday, May 5th.

Megabus is offering non-stop bus services to New York City and Alfred for Summer break. Dates and times of bus travel are listed below! 

To New York City: 

Friday, May 9th departing from Orvis Activities Center or West University St at 7:45 a.m.

Sunday, May 11th departing from Orvis Activities Center or West University at 7:45 a.m.

Alternate bus options are available through https://trailways.com. Please note that Trailways bus leaves from Hornell, NY and you will need to find transportation to the bus station. 

Rochester Airport Shuttle 

Depart Alfred Saturday, May 10th at 6am and Sunday, May 11th at 6am

Requests for Airport Shuttle to the Rochester Airport must be submitted via the Online travel request form for rides up to the Rochester Airport.

Selecting your Room! 

Room selection will begin March 31, 2025 for students whose tuition deposit is received by March 25.  

For those who have not paid their tuition deposit by March 26, room selection will begin on April 14, 2025. 

You will need to have your housing application completed in order to select your room! 

Selecting your room instructions:

  1. Log into your my.alfredstate.edu
  2. Select the “Housing” icon
  3. Return to "Housing Overview" 
  4.  Select the green "Browse Rooms"
  5. You can search for specific rooms by building/section and/or other residence preferences set up. This may take a couple of attempts pending on your preferences and room availability. "No bed available" will appear if there is not a room available through the preferences you set up. 
  6. Click the "bed" icon to select your room of choice. 
  7. Dialog window will be prompted with details of the selected room. 
  8. Click the "choose this bed" button
  9. Review the details of your room reservation. Click on "Assign me now" to confirm your assignment.  Click the "look at other rooms" link to browse other rooms. 

Please note individual room selection will close on August 1, 2025

Public debate on athletic/extracurricular requirement

Please join the English & Humanities department and the Debate Club for a brief student debate followed by an open public forum at 2-3:30 pm Thurs, May 1 in the SLC small events space.   

Resolved: ASC should require all full-time students to participate in a varsity sport or other extracurricular activity of equivalent rigor.

Allegany County Needs YOUR help!

Allegany County needs YOUR help for their community health survey and as a student that attends ASC your opinion matters! The survey is quite important as it is only conducted every 6 years now and is used to assess the needs of our community members across the county. The responses that are collected from the survey guide programming and suggests what are necessary interventions, several community organizations, schools, parks, and even churches depend on the data from this survey to support grant writing.
