The process for electing your Alfred State Chapter UUP leadership is underway. Your chapter leaders serve all three campuses of Alfred State. Statewide has mailed out BALLOT forms to all UUP members to vote for chapter leadership. These mail-in forms are due at UUP Statewide APRIL 18th. Please follow the instructions in the mailing to make sure your ballot is valid and counted. Note that the CHAPTER BYLAWS vote on proposed BYLAWS changes will be conducted by paper ballot AFTER chapter elections have concluded.
WRITE-INS: ANY UUP member may be written in on the ballot, even if their name doesn't appear. You may write-in the person you want as a representative, even if it's yourself. Over the years, some people have attained their chapter positions by write-in.
We encourage all members to take part in this democratic election process and be involved in helping our union work for all of us. This includes Wellsville and Northland! If you did not receive a ballot and want to vote, contact chapter assistant Elaine (Burns) Ryan: alfred@uupmail.org
Only UUP MEMBERS may take part in chapter elections and votes. UUP membership makes good things happen! A higher proportion of membership adds to our negotiating leverage for improving our work lives and benefitting SUNY as a whole. Membership is NOT automatic; check your pay stub and if you’re not already a member, you can sign up at http://uupinfo.org/join

Christopher’s Challenge will be holding a bone marrow drive and will be there to educate and type people between the ages of 18-55 who would like to be added to the DKMS Registry. If someone relapses from a disease such as leukemia, their only hope to survive is to have a marrow transplant. Their sibling is the most likely match but if they do not match, then a search begins in the Registry. That is where you come in – you can get typed on April 17 and you may be that person that saves someone’s life. The initial testing is to complete a brief registration and a cheek swab. The collective bargaining agreements between the State and CSEA, Council 82, M/C (Grade 22 and below), DC-37, NYSCOPBA, PBANYS, and PEF, allow employees to waive holiday compensation.
Consequently, between April 2 and May 15, 2025, employees may elect to change their holiday waiver, in writing, using the Holiday Waiver form found on our website, under Human Resources under Benefits box Waiver of Holiday Compensation Election Form. This form must be on file if you elect to waive holiday pay and choose to receive instead compensatory time off for holidays worked. The waiver will remain in effect until at least April 1, 2026. Employees may also elect to revoke any waiver of holiday compensation now in effect by filing this same form. If you wish to keep your current holiday pay or waiver status, you do not need to submit an updated form.
Please forward completed forms to Amber Adams, in Human Resources, no later than May 15, 2025.

Faculty from a variety of disciplines are often looking for ways to emphasize the value of written communication skills for their students. These skills are introduced in COMP 1503: Writing Studies, but further coordination is needed to ensure writing skills are reinforced (in assessable ways) in upper-level major courses. The Faculty Learning Community on Interdisciplinary Writing Transfer aims to facilitate the coordination of writing instruction across disciplines. Contact Travis Matteson, mattestw@alfredstate.edu, to join.

Keeping your beneficiary information up to date ensures your benefits are distributed according to your wishes. Additionally, please verify that your beneficiary’s contact information is current to prevent any delays in benefit processing.
How to Review and Update Your Beneficiary Information:
Taking a few minutes to review your beneficiary information can provide peace of mind and help ensure your benefits are handled according to your wishes.
If you have any questions or need assistance, please reach out to your retirement plan provider directly.
