Last Day to Drop a Class

The last day to drop a full-term class is 4 p.m. Friday, November 4, 2022. Students wishing to drop a course should go to their academic department to complete a Course Change Notice. The completed Course Change Notice should be brought to the Student Records and Financial Services Office during business hours, Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.- 4 p.m., to be processed. Students are required to speak to a financial aid counselor before dropping a class to review potential impact on their financial aid. A $20 fee will be assessed to the student’s account at the time the course is dropped. This fee can be paid online at my.AlfredState.edu/finances or in person at the Student Records and Financial Services Office. A late fee will be added if this fee is not paid within 30 days.

SPINE-TINGLING ENTERTAINMENT AT THE COLLEGE FARM TONIGHT!

ANNOUNCING THE RETURN of CAL Club’s Haunted Trail and Hayride at the ASC College Farm on Wednesday, October 26th .  That’s TONIGHT!!  Bring a friend!  We'll do the driving!  Hayrides & vans begin loading in the Parking Lot next to the Pioneer Center beginning at 7pm with continuous loops to the Haunted Trail until 9:30pm.  Dress warmly for this spine-chilling event!  Bring your friends to see which ones survive the chain saw massacre!  Fun for young and old as well as warm refreshments --if you survive the haunted trail in one piece!  Cost is $8.00 per person/$15.00 per couple.  Send your bloody questions to:  fitzsidd@alfredstate.edu

Looking for some advice and general help for being a college student? 

There are 5 Peer Mentors in the Student Success Center: Alex, Amber, Ane, Chris, and Xavier. You can see their pictures on our Instagram @ascStudentSuccess 

 Peer Mentors help with: 

  • time management/study skills 
  • referrals to campus resources 
  • adjustment to college 
  • issues or questions you have about class 

Each Peer Mentor sits "office hours" in the Student Success Center (SDC 205) from 5-7pm Monday-Thursday but also can set up individual appointments.  Open to all majors!

Thursday Student Discussion Panel/Student Survival Guide Series

Student Survival Guide/Thursday Panel Discussion Series  Come join us Thursday October 27 at 7 p.m. in the Small Events Space in the Student Leadership Center, topic this week : Joining a club or sport, how can being involved in the wider campus community effect you and add to your college experience.  Come and meet students from various clubs as they chat about the difference joining an activity had made their college life better.

Gamma Theta Gamma Haunted House

Gamma Theta Gamma will be hosting their haunted house on October 26th and October 27th from 6-10pm at their house, located at 52 North Main Street. It's $5 / person, and all proceeds go to Relay for Life.


ACES Bus Stop Changes on Loop Road

Due to the closure of the main entrance of campus on Monday, October 24 any students that use lower loop road bus stops will need to start using the upper loop road bus stops until Monday, December 5. The ACES bus picking up students will only pick up students starting from in front of the Orvis Activities Center to in front of Shults Hall.

Shuttle Stop Closures and Availability

Please be aware that as we prioritize our goal to improve our campus, some shuttle pick-up locations may be closed during construction. As of this time, the Main Entrance Shuttle Stop, the Townhouse Shuttle Stop, the Administration/AG Science Shuttle Stop, and the Mackenzie South Shuttle Stop are temporarily closed. Please utilize the Shults and Orvis Shuttle Stops at this time. Thank you for your cooperation and patience as we work to improve ASC!

Transport Team Hiring

The transport team is a group of student leaders that provides rides to and from appointments for medical treatment through partnership with Health & Wellness Services, University Police, Student Senate, and Residential Services, this team will also provide approved transports for the Office of Residential Services for students in need of assistance.  Student senate will provide you with a vehicle to transport students to and from appointments.

Payment is based on number and distance of transports completed.  Paychecks are distributed bi-weekly.

Interested parties must meet the following requirements:

  • Be in good academic standing at the time of employment
  • Have no current Student Conduct Status
  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Have a valid driver’s license that has been issued for more than one calendar year

Cannot have any driving infractions, moving violations, or accidents in the last three years

Baja SAE Club looking for members

Want to be part of a team where you can design and build a vehicle from scratch? Then come check out the BAJA SAE Club! What is a BAJA Vehicle you may be asking? A BAJA vehicle is an 4WD offroad race/rally vehicle that is custom designed to handle all sorts of terrains, from mud to gravel to hills and even pavement! We will be designing the vehicle in solid works then building it to spec. If this sounds interesting to you, then come check the club out! Meetings start at 5:00pm on Monday’s and Wednesdays. All majors accepted; no experience required.

Residential Programmer Positions available for Spring 2023

The Office of Residential Service and Student Engagement are now accepting applications for a new position – Residential Programmer! Residential Programmers are live in residential staff that co-supervised by Student Engagement and Residential Services. Residentials programmers will maintain a semester and cumulative GPA of 2.25 and foster relationships throughout the residence hall through community meetings, hall council, and events. Residential Programmers will work in their assigned residence hall to develop signage for programming initiatives in the building and develop "stall stories" on a bi-weekly basis. The Residential Programmer will attend Hall Council and serve as the Junior Advisor for Hall Council. In cases of emergencies, Residential Programmers may be asked to help sit office hours during snow days or power outages and create emergency programming ideas for the residence hall.

Residential Programmers will receive a double-room compensation.

Transport Team Positions Open

Residential Services in conjunction with Health & Wellness is looking to hire 6 Motor Vehicle Operator positions for the Transport Team. 

Minimum Qualifications: 

Candidates must possess a New York State Driver's License appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated, valid for a minimum of one year, have a clean driving record, and be able to lift a minimum of 20 pounds.  Candidates will be required to complete the LENS Driving Certification. 

The Campus Transport team is a part of the Residential Services department within the Division of Student Affairs at Alfred State. It is composed of a dedicated, student-oriented group of professionals who create an environment conducive to learning about oneself, the community, and society. We provide learning opportunities, skill development, and personal contacts that foster a successful, well-balanced, and fulfilling life experience for the students of Alfred State and our community.

Thanksgiving Break Housing Application

Residence halls will close at 10:00pm on Tuesday November 22, 2022, for the Thanksgiving Break. The Residence halls will reopen at Noon on Sunday November 27, 2022. Residential Services is aware that the final bus scheduled to leave Alfred leaves before 10:00pm. If you are here for an Academic reason and cannot make the bus, please contact your Residence Director to remain on campus the evening of Tuesday, November 22. However, you must plan travel arrangements for the morning of Wednesday, November 23.

 

Only students who have been approved to stay for the break will be allowed in the residence halls.

All others may be charged with trespassing.

 

Students will only be approved who:

• Live over 500 miles away (according to your home Banner Address)

• Have a Special Circumstance (ex. You do not have a place to go)

• Working for the college during the break (with Supervisors Approval)

• Part an official athletic team, listed on the Roster received from Athletics, and have practice or a game during the break

Pioneer Exchange (campus thrift store) and The PLATE (campus food pantry) Information

Pioneer Exchange is open, and the civic leadership team would like to invite you to stop by and see the items we have on offer! 

The space is located in the ground floor of Pioneer Center (next to the barbershop) and our hours of operation can be found on the Civic Engagement Pioneer Link landing page. 

The PLATE food pantry is a campus resource to address food insecurity by sharing nutritious emergency food & personal care items to current students.   The process is very straightforward:

(1)  Complete the form at https://pioneerlink.alfredstate.edu/submitter/form/start/398506    

(2)  A bag of food containing 3-4 days’ worth of supplies will be prepared within a couple days

(3)  You will be advised via email once it is ready to be picked up.  

The food pantry is administered and funded through Student Senate and the Center for Global Engagement/Civic Wellbeing.
