Week of Welcome - Opportunities to connect with students & have fun!
Week of Welcome (WOW) will be held Monday, August 19-Sunday, August 25 with numerous academic and extra-curricular activities being hosted to engage and welcome our new students to Alfred State College! WOW is the perfect opportunity to connect with our new Pioneers outside of the classroom and offices while having fun on campus. It is our goal to have professionals come out to our events taking place to mingle with students, volunteer to assist with events, and help them feel at home during this transitional period. If you are interested in attending an event and/or volunteering, we are happy to connect with you to provide the specific details to find a time that fits your availability. Specifically, we encourage professionals to attend our New Student Carnival on Sunday, August 25 from 4PM-7PM, located on the spine of campus.
We look forward to working with you during WOW, please reach out to Calsey Bump at bumpce@alfredstate.edu if you would like to participate in a Week of Welcome event!
New Student Convocation
We’re excited to welcome our incoming students at the annual New Student Convocation (NSC) taking place this year on Thursday, Aug. 22, 2024, at 11 a.m. in Orvis gymnasium. We ask all faculty and staff to join us for New Student Convocation and in our tradition of making the Alfred State “A” with the incoming class. This year we are unable to provide faculty and staff shirts, but we do ask you to wear the prior white New Student Convocation shirt from 2022. If you do not have it any longer or are new faculty/staff, please wear a white shirt.
Immediately following the NSC, faculty/staff and the students will walk up to the stadium together to proceed in taking the picture and enjoying lunch together during the Activities Fair from 12:30-2:30 p.m. Faculty and staff lunch tickets will be provided to those who participate and will be distributed as you enter the stadium.
We look forward to seeing you all there and giving the incoming class a warm welcome to Alfred State College. If you have any questions regarding New Student Convocation, please reach out to Calsey Bump, Bumpce@alfredstate.edu.

New FERPA Management Software
ASC has launched FERPA Management in the Alfred State Parent & Family Connections platform! Here’s how it works:
- After creating an account, your parent(s) or anyone else supporting you, can make a connection request to access your academic and financial records through a digital FERPA waiver.
- You will be notified of the request. You have the choice to approve or reject permissions for requested records. You can also initiate a connection and select what information you want them to access.
- Approved connections can view a dashboard of your academic and financial data in the portal, and they will receive email alerts when the data changes.
What does this mean for you?
- We are encouraging all students to use FERPA Management in the Alfred State Parent & Family Connections platform.
- We will use FERPA Management in the Alfred State Parent & Family Connections platform OR existing FERPA Waiver forms until classes begin this fall.
- Once classes begin, we will no longer use the existing paper FERPA Waiver forms.
- Visit my.AlfredState.edu/registration > Student Privacy for more information. We also have a FERPA Guide for Students and a FERPA Guide for Parents available.
