Pioneer Trails During Hunting Season - University Police

Just a reminder to anyone that may be on the Pioneer Trails to be aware that early bowhunting season has begun with other hunting seasons to follow over the next couple of weeks and month.

You should be aware that our neighboring landowners may be hunting nearby during this time. If you are on the trails especially during sunrise and sunset, we suggest you take steps to make yourself visible to hunters who are hunting on private property. Below are some safety measures to keep yourself safe while in the woods:

  • Wear a blaze orange hat, vest or backpack
  • Keep your dogs on a leash and put blaze orange on them as well
  • Make yourself known by making some noise as you walk or run by whistling or talking
  • If you hear shooting nearby raise your voice to alert hunters of your presence
  • Once a hunter is aware of your presence don’t make unnecessary noise to disturb wildlife, be courteous and avoid confrontations
  • Stay on the trails
