The Alfred State Drama Club is proud to announce that Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street tickets are now on sale at the campus bookstore and can be purchased with cash, card, or CSA!

$5 for students and $10 for General Admission.

Open House - Volunteers Needed Due to Near Record Numbers!

Admissions is excited to host another fall Open House program, this Sunday, November 13. With near record numbers expected (almost 500 prospective students), we would love to have some extra volunteers to help make the experience the best ever. If you are available to help mingle and direct families throughout the day, please contact Calsey Bump at bumpce@alfredstate.edu. 

Check-in begins at 9:00 a.m. with presentations beginning at 9:30 a.m. on both the Alfred and Wellsville campus. Once students have completed their academic tours on the Wellsville campus they will be directed to the Alfred campus to go on a residence hall tour, and participate in financial aid and campus life presentations. Both campuses will be offering academic tours at 10 am, 11 am, 12 pm, 1 pm, and 2 pm.

LEGO Building with the Peer Mentors

Join the peer mentors for a meet-up event to build LEGOS on Tuesday, November 8, 2022 from 12-1pm in the SLC Park Space. Look for a sign on the table that says “Peer Mentor.” Peer Mentors will answer questions you have about college and give advice about adjusting to Alfred State. All are welcome to attend this event! Supplies provided. 

Midterm Elections are Here – Get Out the Vote!

Tuesday, November 8th is Election Day! We encourage all registered voters to exercise your right by taking time to vote, if you have not already done so via absentee ballot or early voting. Polling stations across the state open at 6:00 AM and close at 9:00 PM.  For those registered in Alfred, the polling station is conveniently located just two blocks from campus at 4 South Main St inside the A. E. Crandall Hook and Ladder Company. This is Alfred’s fire station located behind Alfred Village Hall and near the public library. If you are not sure where you are registered, you can check here.

You can find out more about what is on your ballot prior to voting by going to www.vote411.org. Additional help may be found by visiting the NYS Board of Elections website or by contacting the Allegany County Board of Elections at 585-268-9295. On campus sources of information for students include Melanie Ryan (SDC 136), Leslie Buckley (Wellsville Student Services Building), or Cyan Corwine (SLC 416).

Get Ready for Spring 2023 Registration

Spring 2023 registration begins November 14, 2022 at 9 AM!  The first step is printing a copy of the Course Selection Form from BannerWeb.  Next, meet with your academic adviser to review your course selections and receive your Alternate Registration PIN and web registration time.  Internet students should contact their adviser to discuss course selection.  Registration instructions are available at my.AlfredState.edu/registration under “Records Office Resources.”

Graduating and re-admitting into a new major?  You will need to re-apply through Admissions and pay your acceptance deposit before you will be assigned a web registration time and Alternate Registration PIN. 

Were you expecting to graduate this semester but now will not?  In order to be assigned a registration time, your academic department chair must remove you from the graduation list.  Follow up to make sure your name has been removed.

Please note that students are not officially registered for classes until their bills are paid/processed with Student Records and Financial Services.  The spring 2023 bill is due by 4:00 PM on January 5, 2023.

Disaster Relief Trip: Call for Volunteers

Interested in volunteering over winter break?  A team is being formed to travel to Port Charlotte, FL December 17-22 to provide support to communities in need.  Hurricane Ian hit the west coast of Florida at a Category 4 strength on 9/28 causing devastating impacts along the coast  along with catastrophic flooding further inland.  In collaboration with long time partner All Hands & Hearts, this team will continue efforts in debris removal and general cleanup.  Cost for students is $100.  Apply now at https://forms.office.com/r/AZUJwWYRKP.  Invitations to join the team will be sent out around 11/14.  

Leadership Suite Applications are now open

Do you belong to a club or organization actively involved in making a difference in the larger community? Are you solving problems, taking on opportunities, and using your passion and skills to help others? This could take the form of volunteerism, community service trips, public awareness campaigns, fundraising efforts, advocacy, and education.

If so, we invite you to view our Civic Engagement Pioneer page to submit a Leadership Suite proposal. Leadership Suites are designed to celebrate and get others involved in community-minded causes and initiatives locally, regionally, and/or globally. 

Suite applications must be submitted by November 18th, 2022, to be considered for Spring 2023.

Alternative Spring Break Applications Are Now Open!

Winter is coming, and the Office of Global and Civic Wellbeing is celebrating by thinking about Civic Engagement and Spring Break! Do you love giving back to communities in need and soaking up some sunshine when the snow just won’t let go? If so, this spring break service trip could be perfect for you! The application for our Alternative Spring Break trip is now open! We will once again be traveling to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina to work with Habitat for Humanity during spring break (March 12th-March 18th).  If you are interested in learning more or wish to be considered for the trip, we invite you to visit our Civic Engagement Pioneer page to submit your application.

University Police, Office of Global Engagement, Civic Wellbeing, and Pi Rho Zeta

Community Action Angels – Holiday Fund Raising Initiatives:

University Police, the Office of Global Engagement and Civic Wellbeing, and Pi Rho Zeta are partnering with Community Action Angels this Holiday Season and are seeking your support!

Pi Rho Zeta will be collecting toys and winter clothing for children of all ages in partnership with Accords Community Action Angels.  Donations can be dropped off to their leadership suite, Room 306 in the Student Leadership Center.  The deadline for donations is Friday, December 2nd. 

In addition, UP and Global and Civic Wellbeing will be working to collect much needed funds and gift cards to further support the community needs through the Action Angels Holiday Assistance program. If you would like to make a financial donation you may do so at one of our tabling events or stop by either UP campus dispatch or the Center for Global and Civic Wellbeing in SLC 416.

Vice President of Commuter Affairs of Student Senate Position is Open!

Interested in politics? Want to be more involved on campus? Join Student Senate and be a voice for the student body! We need individuals that want to improve our campus!

We currently have our Vice President of Commuter Affairs position open. 

Some of the requirements for this position are –

• Every Tuesday Availability from 5 pm to 8 pm for our Executive Board Meeting and General Assembly.
• Ideally some experience in programming events for the student body. (If not, guidance will be provided throughout the tenure)
• This position is designed only for commuters.
• It is a paid position with the pay of $14/hour.

Vice President of Commuter Affairs for the Student Senate is responsible for the exchange of information and the initiation of projects and problem-solving pertaining to Commuter Life. Only a Commuter Student can serve in this position. They shall co-chair the  Commuter Council and they are responsible for establishing strong communication links with the Asst.  Director of College Housing and Judicial Affairs. This chair should act as one of the Student Senate  representatives on the Faculty Senate Student Life Committee. This chair will serve as the liaison to Greek Senate. They shall also meet or exceed the expectations set forth for the members of the Executive  Board of the Student Senate within the Policies and Procedures of the organization.

Transport Team Positions Open

Residential Services in conjunction with Health & Wellness is looking to hire 6 Motor Vehicle Operator positions for the Transport Team. 

Minimum Qualifications: 

Candidates must possess a New York State Driver's License appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated, valid for a minimum of one year, have a clean driving record, and be able to lift a minimum of 20 pounds.  Candidates will be required to complete the LENS Driving Certification. 

The Campus Transport team is a part of the Residential Services department within the Division of Student Affairs at Alfred State. It is composed of a dedicated, student-oriented group of professionals who create an environment conducive to learning about oneself, the community, and society. We provide learning opportunities, skill development, and personal contacts that foster a successful, well-balanced, and fulfilling life experience for the students of Alfred State and our community.

Students who live on campus and are hired for this position also receive half-room compensation!

Thanksgiving Break Housing Application

Residence halls will close at 10:00pm on Tuesday November 22, 2022, for the Thanksgiving Break. The Residence halls will reopen at Noon on Sunday November 27, 2022. Residential Services is aware that the final bus scheduled to leave Alfred leaves before 10:00pm. If you are here for an Academic reason and cannot make the bus, please contact your Residence Director to remain on campus the evening of Tuesday, November 22. However, you must plan travel arrangements for the morning of Wednesday, November 23.

Only students who have been approved to stay for the break will be allowed in the residence halls.

All others may be charged with trespassing.

Students will only be approved who:

• Live over 500 miles away (according to your home Banner Address)

• Have a Special Circumstance (ex. You do not have a place to go)

• Working for the college during the break (with Supervisors Approval)

• Part an official athletic team, listed on the Roster received from Athletics, and have practice or a game during the break
