Early Voting and Election Day
Voter registration for this presidential election cycle closed on the 26th of October and early voting officially began! Did you know you can research your ballot on our voter registration portal? The presidential race isn't the only thing on our ballots, and you can utilize this non-partisan resource to review policy and background information on each candidate featuring on your ballot to help you make a decision that aligns most with your values.
While early voting is underway, Tuesday, October 29th is known as Vote Early Day, and we conveniently have a polling location on the Alfred Campus loop at St. Jude’s (1154 Lower College Drive) - open for Allegany County registered voters on Monday 28th-Wednesday the 30th from 8-4pm! If you are a registered voter in Alfred and choose to wait until November 5th to cast your ballot, your local polling place will be the A E Crandall Hook and Ladder Co. Fire Station in the Village of Alfred (4 South Main Street) and our campus bus’s will offer this location as a stop on their standard route each hour that day!
Whether you decide to get out your vote early or not, the Center for Civic Leadership is proud to partner on a couple of engagement events:
National Vote Early Day – October 29th
- Khalid Ashraf Symposium: The Electoral College & Election Reform
- Join faculty from the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences and the Center for Civic Leadership for an engaging event exploring the Electoral College and the pros and cons of our current system.

Election Day – November 5th
- Election Night Well-being Initiative
- While casting a ballot is one way we can be engaged citizens, the work of fostering a caring community is a daily endeavor that involves everyone! Join the Center of Civic Leadership, the Department Social and Behavioral Sciences, and Health and Wellness Services on Election night as we put focus on caring for ourselves and one another while polling closes on election night 2024.

VOTING - Shuttle Bus Route
November 5th, ACES Transportation will be providing shuttle bus rides from 7:50am (beginning) - 5:50pm (last return) to the Alfred Village Fire Hall at 4 South Main Street, for students to be able to vote.
Poinsettias and Wreaths! It's fundraiser time!
It is time to think about decorating for the Holidays! Order a beautiful 6 inch red poinsettia to support Chi Alpha Epsilon (XAE) - the EOP Honor Society. Also available this season will be TWO colors of deluxe wreaths - red or burgundy!!! This fundraiser will cover the Induction packets for our Spring 2025 Inductees! The sale runs from Friday, November 1st through Thursday, November 14th. Pick up or arranged deliver will take place after December 3rd. There will be links for both poinsettias ($15 each) and wreaths ($35 each) starting on November 1st, so make sure to check Announcements on Friday! Kitten Yoga Classes
The Vet Tech Club is sponsoring a Kitten Yoga class!
Event date Saturday November 2, 2024 in the Pioneer Studio. Pick a class time – either 11 am or 12 pm.
Registration is $10 and must be paid in advance by Friday November 1 at 4pm to reserve your spot. Space is limited! Walk-ins may be available as space permits. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Hornell Humane Society.
Some yoga mats available or you can bring your own. Wear comfortable clothes you can move in. Suggested to bring water and a towel.

'Improving Your _________' Workshop
The Student Success Center will be hosting the Improving Your ___________ Workshop on Wednesday, October 30th at 5pm in the Student Development Center, Room 109. How often do you catch yourself saying, “I wish I were better at _________.” Well now is your chance to do it! In this workshop you will learn how to improve at something by recognizing the skills you already have and combining them with some new simple and effective strategies. All are welcome and encouraged to join!

Juma'a Prayer (Friday Islamic Prayer) – Open Invitation
The Muslim Student Association (MSA) invites you to join our weekly Juma'a prayer, held every Friday at 2:15 PM in the prayer space at Braddon Hall. The prayer and sermon will be completed in 30 minutes.
All Muslims and non-Muslims are welcome to attend. We begin with a Jama' speech (Islamic sermon), and non-Muslims are welcome to observe or participate.

Thanksgiving Break Housing Application
Residence halls will close at 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, for the Thanksgiving Break. The Residence halls will reopen at Noon on Sunday, December 1, 2024. Residential Services is aware that the final bus scheduled to leave Alfred leaves before 10:00 p.m. If you are here for an academic reason and cannot make travel arrangements for the evening of Tuesday, November 26, please contact your Residence Director to remain on campus that night. However, you must plan travel arrangements for the morning of Wednesday, November 27.
Only students who have been approved to stay for the break will be allowed in the residence halls.
All others may be charged with trespassing.
Students will only be approved who:
- Live over 500 miles away (according to your home Banner Address)
- Have a Special Circumstance (ex. You do not have a place to go)
- Working for the college during the break (with Supervisors Approval)
- Athletics commitment during the break (must be on roster submitted from Athletics)
If you wish to apply to stay for the break, please complete the "Break Housing Request" form on eRezLife. To access this form, please sign in to my.alfredstate.edu, select "housing," and then select the "Break Housing Request" form.
Please note, that this form will close on Thursday, November 21.

Requests for Airport Shuttle must be to the Rochester Airport and students will have to fill out the Online travel request form for both their trips to and from the airport.

This semester the Student Senate Executive Board will be raffling off three $250 gift cards at the last General Assembly (GA) on 12/3/2024. To receive a ticket for the raffle you must attend a GA meeting throughout the semester. Each attendance will earn you one ticket.
Attendees must show up on time. Late attendance forfeits your ability to receive your raffle ticket.
