Student Announce June 2, 2023

Friday, June 2 ACTIVE SHOOTER DRILL

University Police, local law enforcement, EMS, and firefighters will conduct an Active Shooter Drill on Friday, June 2 on the Alfred campus. This drill has no announced time to be as realistic as possible.

On Friday, the emergency sirens on campus buildings will be activated and a RAVE alert sent.  “Drill Today” signs will be posted at several roadway entrances to the Alfred campus. There will be simulated weapons fire (blanks) heard in buildings and on the campus. The fire alarm may be activated in some buildings on campus to simulate what a perpetrator may do.

Faculty and staff on the Alfred campus are encouraged to participate by using these emergency response techniques:

  • AVOID – Consider an exit plan and move away from the source of any threat.
  • DENY – Shelter in place while locking and/or barricading entryways.
  • DEFEND – Protect yourself physically.

Further information regarding preparation skills can be found at www.avoiddenydefend.org. If there are any further questions in advance, please contact Chief Jeff Wilcox at 607-587-3993.

Room Selection for 2023 - 2024

The individual room selection process has ended. Students without a housing assignment for the 2023 – 2024 academic year must complete the housing application in eRezLife. Once completed our office will work on providing you with a housing assignment for the 2023 – 2024 academic year based on your building preferences.

If you have someone you wish to room with, please create a roommate group after each person has completed their housing application. Residential Services will try to place you with your roommate group if the space allows for it.

Please contact Residential Services at reslife@alfredstate.edu or 607-587-4371 with any questions.

Wed. June 7 New Closure on Lower College Drive

Starting Wednesday, June 7, the infrastructure project will continue down Lower Loop Road to the East side of the Elm Street bridge.  Lower Loop Road and all parking lots from the South Gate entrance to the Townhouses will be closed for the summer with plans to reopen before the beginning of the fall semester.  This will include student lots 12, 14, and 16, faculty lots 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, and 11, and commuter lots 4, 9, and 13.

Alternate parking will need to be used for the duration of this construction stage and can be identified on the campus map. Employees can use any of the open student and employee lots during this time period. Admissions visitor parking will be located in lot 35.

We anticipate the reopening of the upper loop from the tiered stadium lots 18, 19, and 20 to the South Gate entrance soon. We will send out an announcement when this occurs.

Thank you for your patience as we make these great improvements to our campus infrastructure.  Any questions can be directed to Jon Nickerson at X4724.
