Thanksgiving Break Housing Application

Residence halls will close at 10:00pm on Tuesday November 22, 2022, for the Thanksgiving Break. The Residence halls will reopen at Noon on Sunday November 27, 2022. Residential Services is aware that the final bus scheduled to leave Alfred leaves before 10:00pm. If you are here for an Academic reason and cannot make the bus, please contact your Residence Director to remain on campus the evening of Tuesday, November 22. However, you must plan travel arrangements for the morning of Wednesday, November 23.

 

Only students who have been approved to stay for the break will be allowed in the residence halls.

All others may be charged with trespassing.

 

Students will only be approved who:

• Live over 500 miles away (according to your home Banner Address)

• Have a Special Circumstance (ex. You do not have a place to go)

• Working for the college during the break (with Supervisors Approval)

• Part an official athletic team, listed on the Roster received from Athletics, and have practice or a game during the break

Baja SAE Club looking for members

Want to be part of a team where you can design and build a vehicle from scratch? Then come check out the BAJA SAE Club! What is a BAJA Vehicle you may be asking? A BAJA vehicle is an 4WD offroad race/rally vehicle that is custom designed to handle all sorts of terrains, from mud to gravel to hills and even pavement! We will be designing the vehicle in solid works then building it to spec. If this sounds interesting to you, then come check the club out! Meetings start at 5:00pm on Monday’s and Wednesdays. All majors accepted; no experience required.

Midterm Recovery Workshop - Student Success Center

The Student Success Center will be hosting the Midterm Recovery workshop on Thursday, October 20th at 6pm in EJ Brown Hall, Room 119.  If you are looking at your midterm grades and want to improve them, start with this workshop. Strategies and options will be discussed as to the best course of action to achieve your goals this semester. All are welcome and encouraged to join!

Gamma Theta Gamma Haunted House

Gamma Theta Gamma will be hosting their haunted house on October 26th and October 27th from 6-10pm at their house, located at 52 North Main Street. It's $5 / person, and all proceeds go to Relay for Life.


Annual Square Dance

This Friday night, a square dance featuring the Geneseo String Band will be hosted by InterVarsity Christian Fellowship from 7:30pm until 10:30pm in the Joyce & Walton Annex attached to Alfred University's McLane Center on Main Street.  Basic instruction will occur from 7:30pm until 8:00pm with directed dancing occurring thereafter.  Come join students, faculty, and staff of both colleges for an evening of music, dancing, and conversation.

Parking Lot Closures

The west end of parking lot 19 is currently closed through Saturday 10/22/22 @ 4:00pm .

Parking lots 20 and 20A are closed  Wednesday 10/19/22 @ 4:00pm through Saturday 10/22/22 @ 4:00pm.

Parking Lot 22 is closed Wednesday 10/19/22 @ 4:00pm through Thursday 10/20/22 @ 3:00pm.


SRFS Office Closed

The SRFS Office will be closed during the Inauguration of our Thirteenth President on Thursday, October 20, so that staff may attend.

Office Closure

Health & Wellness Services on both the Alfred and Wellsville Campus will be closing at 12pm on Thursday, October 20th to attend the President's Inauguration.  Should a student have a medical or mental health emergency, please contact University Police at 607-587-3999.  Thank you.

Pioneer Exchange (campus thrift store) and The PLATE (campus food pantry) Information

Pioneer Exchange is open, and the civic leadership team would like to invite you to stop by and see the items we have on offer! 

The space is located in the ground floor of Pioneer Center (next to the barbershop) and our hours of operation can be found on the Civic Engagement Pioneer Link landing page. 

The PLATE food pantry is a campus resource to address food insecurity by sharing nutritious emergency food & personal care items to current students.   The process is very straightforward:

(1)  Complete the form at https://pioneerlink.alfredstate.edu/submitter/form/start/398506    

(2)  A bag of food containing 3-4 days’ worth of supplies will be prepared within a couple days

(3)  You will be advised via email once it is ready to be picked up.  

The food pantry is administered and funded through Student Senate and the Center for Global Engagement/Civic Wellbeing.

Ergo Submissions/Cover Contest/Poetry Reading

SUBMISSIONS WANTED FOR ERGO, ALFRED STATE’S LITERARY MAGAZINE

Take a break, sit quietly, and create a piece of artwork, poem, story, or whatever and send to Ergo, Alfred State’s literary magazine, at Ergo@alfredstate.edu

ERGO COVER CONTEST DEADLINE:  OCTOBER 31, 2022

Wondering what to submit?  Full wrap cover (front & back) 17.25" wide by 11.25" high or just the front cover 8.75" wide by 11.25" high, 300 dpi, jpeg.  All entries must fit these specifications for consideration.

And better yet, there's a prize!  Winner and a runner-up will both get a $100 gift certificate for the ASC Campus Store, and boasting rights for being featured as the author of the cover on the Fall 2022 ERGO publication!
