First Interest Meeting for Muslim Student Association (MSA)
Dear Alfred Students,
We are excited to announce the first interest meeting for the Muslim Student Association (MSA) at Alfred State College! The MSA aims to foster a sense of community, understanding, and support for Muslim students and those interested in learning more about Islamic culture. The meeting will happen this coming Thursday, December 7th, at 6pm in SLC room 408.
Join us for our first gathering to:
- Learn about the goals and mission of the MSA
- Meet fellow students interested in promoting diversity and inclusivity
- Discuss the upcoming spring semester
- Share ideas for future activities and projects
Whether you are a Muslim student looking for a supportive community or someone interested in learning more about Islamic culture, all are welcome to attend. This is an excellent opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals, build lasting friendships, and contribute to a campus environment that celebrates diversity.
If you have any questions or would like more information, please feel free to contact me at isikdese@alfredstate.edu or (585)360-3289.
We look forward to seeing you at the meeting and working together to create a vibrant and inclusive community at Alfred University.
Best regards,
Sinan Isikdemir
SNAP Eligibility - Resource Table
Have you ever wondered if you qualify for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)?
The Center for Civic Leadership is partnering with Directions in Independent Living to provide a resource table on December 12th from 10-2pm in the SLC Park Space to help interested students understand the eligibility requirements and application steps.
- Food insecurity and hunger can affect anyone. Under federal law, college students who are between the ages of 18 and 49 years old and are attending an institution of higher education at least half-time (6 credits or more) MAY be eligible to receive food assistance through SNAP benefits if they meet certain criteria. One of the criteria is participation in a program of career and technical education as defined under the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act of 2006 (see 7 CFR 273.5).
- While Alfred State College cannot determine whether you are eligible for SNAP we do want to make sure you are guided to appropriate resources. SNAP eligibility is ultimately determined by each County’s local Department of Social Services and you can check your eligibility by going through self guided checklist on mybenefits.ny.gov. That said, different counties have noted service providers that can help further support people with understanding those eligibility requirements and we are bringing one of our counties supports to campus to help at this session!
- Applying in a different county or curious about supports closer to your zip code?! You can search foodhelpny.org to see if there are other supporting agencies near you!
- Should you determine you meet basic eligibility requirements and choose to proceed with an Application, you will need a SNAP Student Enrollment Verification form to submitted with your application. This form helps verify that you are enrolled at least half-time in a program of career and technical education as defined under the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act, and therefore satisfy the requirements of this criteria and, in efforts to support our students, Alfred State’s Records Office has integrated this important form into your banner system!!
- Students can now access their SNAP Student Enrollment Verification Form at my.AlfredState.edu/registration > Select the link for “Register for classes” under the Banner SSB 9 (Beta) data block > click “Snap Enrollment Verification Form” > Log in (if needed) > Select term > "Click for a printable version of the SNAP Verification Form".
If you are curious about enrollment requirements or wish to receive guidance on steps to follow, please stop by our resource table on Tuesday, December 12th from 10-2!
We will bring our valued partner from Directions in Independant Living back in the spring as well! Should you have any questions, please reach out to Cyan Corwine in Global and Civic Wellbeing (corwincy@alfredstate.edu)

Intensive Study Hours
I hope this finds you well and the end of the semester is going smoothly for you! I am sending this email as a reminder that Intensive Study Hours have start Sunday December 3 at 8:00 PM and last until the end of the semester, 10:00 PM on December 15th. Intensive Study Hours were implemented to make sure that the residence halls are quiet, so students are able to better focus on preparing for finals and completing final projects in the last two weeks. The important information can be found below:
- Intensive Study Hours begin Sunday, December 3 at 8 PM and last until December 15.
- Intensive Study Hours include the weekends.
- Intensive Study Hours are perpetual quiet hours with a relief period from 4PM- 7Pm. This means that regular hours are from 4 PM-7Pm each day and outside of that time period, quiet hours will be enforced.
- No overnight guests and guests after 10 PM
- This email and the flyers around the building count as your warning.
- A first violation will result in the situation being documented, and you will receive a hand delivered letter that night that you have your first violation and that a second violation will result in relocation.
- A second violation will result in relocation from the residence hall and you will move into another spot on campus for the rest of the semester and you would not be allowed back into your regular residence hall until you are done with finals to grab any items you would need for back home/ return anything from your temporary assignment that you would not need to bring home over break.
University Police
Community Action Angels – Holiday Fund Raising Initiatives:
University Police, is again trying to raise money for ACCORD's Community Action Angels.
This year ACCORD is encouraging cash donations so they can purchase gift cards, donations of gift cards in any denomination for WalMart or DG or Amazon or other stores, and new winter coats for boys and girls, any age.
Food will be a need this year, too. Their pantry has served about 40% more clients each month since July and they welcome donations of any kind of shelf stable products.
At this time, all donations can be dropped off at the University Police Department by Friday, December 8th.
If you have any questions or would like to work on this initiative with the University Police Department please contact Lt. Kris Bianchi (BianchKS@alfredstate.edu).
