Basic Needs Support - Food Drive, Community Needs Hub, SNAP, and Health Insurance

November is here and the Center for Civic Leadership's efforts to enhance basic needs support continue to be in full swing! We are consolidating a few key areas below:

  • Food Drive throughout November!  To help meet the needs of students and our wider community we are launching a November Food Drive Campaign. Seeking non-perishable food and hygiene items that we will use in both our on-campus student Food Pantry and to share with our regional partners!  We are kickstarting our drive this week!  Donations can be dropped:
    • During weekly tabling in SLC (Tuesday's 9-12)
      • separate tabling efforts on 11.6 and 11.7 in SLC
    • Community Needs Hub (ground floor of Braddon Hall),
    • in our donation bin on the 3rd floor of SLC between the double doors that face the spine of campus or dropped at the Community Needs Hub
  • Food for Fine Forgiveness Partnership Returns for remainder of semester!
    • A collaborative program between the Criminal Justice Club, University Police, and Civic Leadership.  Students with a parking fine can donate $10 worth of non-perishable food (make sure it isn't expired or close to expiration date!) to the Criminal Justice Suite (SLC 411) or the Community Needs Hub (ground floor of Braddon) to "pay" for one parking fine (limit to one fine relief per student per semester). This initiative will run through to the end of the Fall semester.
  • SNAP - Our regional Nutrition Outreach and Education Program (NOEP) coordinator will continue to come to campus twice this month as we navigate national landscape regarding SNAP. Our NOEP coordinator offers support students who qualify for SNAP assistance navigate the process. She will be tabling in the SLC from 10-1 on:
    • November 7th & 20th
  • Health Insurance Enrollment Support - if you need assistance identifying a good health insurance plan to meet your needs, we will have an enrollment navigator on campus from AIM Independent Living in the SLC parkspace from 11-1PM on:
    • November 11th
  • Community Needs Hub - Our Civic Leadership team has the Community Needs Hub up and running for the fall semester! The thrift store and pantry are well-stocked and waiting for you to visit! For those that have yet check out our space, we are located on the ground floor of Braddon Hall and accessible through the two external doors that face the outer campus loop. Hours for fall semester are as follows:
    • Monday: 9-4
    • Tuesday: 9-6
    • Wednesday: 9-6
    • Thursday: 10-4
    • Friday: 9 – 4
    • Saturday: 10-4
    • Sunday: 10-4

*Please note that the thrift store is cash only! In addition, while we aim to have doors open for listed hours throughout the semester, the needs hub is student run and there are occasionally scheduling challenges to accommodate sickness, academics, and athletics.

If you are interested or in need of our Pantry services, please note that our Food Pantry Requests can be completed at any time and is embedded under resources on the student portal home page. If submitted when you are in the Community Needs Hub, our team will fill your bag on the spot, and you can walk out with your goods.  If completed outside of operational hours, our team will fill the request once received and email or call you about coordinating a pickup time.

In addition to the above, we want to express our gratitude to all the donors!  For those interested in donating clothing, hygiene items, or non-perishable food, we can receive donations during opening hours or in our donation bin located in the SLC on the 3rd floor (near the central entrance). Our space is small, and we do not have the ability to wash any items, so please make sure any donated clothing is clean and in good condition (no undergarments please!).

Print Black and White in the Library again!

Good news, campus community! The black and white printer in the Library is up and running! You can use it to print from a Library computer or your personal device. (Should you ever need to print in black and white from a color printer again, there is a way to get charged the black and white price, saving you money. Look for the "Color" or "Color Mode" dropdown menu and change the setting to Black and White. You may need to open "Printer Properties" if you do not see this option. A librarian is always available to help with this!)
