Student Announce October 29, 2024

Early Voting and Election Day

Voter registration for this presidential election cycle closed on the 26th of October and early voting officially began! Did you know you can research your ballot on our voter registration portal? The presidential race isn't the only thing on our ballots, and you can utilize this non-partisan resource to review policy and background information on each candidate featuring on your ballot to help you make a decision that aligns most with your values.

While early voting is underway, Tuesday, October 29th is known as Vote Early Day, and we conveniently have a polling location on the Alfred Campus loop at St. Jude’s (1154 Lower College Drive) - open for Allegany County registered voters on Monday 28th-Wednesday the 30th from 8-4pm! If you are a registered voter in Alfred and choose to wait until November 5th to cast your ballot, your local polling place will be the A E Crandall Hook and Ladder Co. Fire Station in the Village of Alfred (4 South Main Street) and our campus bus’s will offer this location as a stop on their standard route each hour that day!

Community Trick-or-Treat Event October 30th

Alfred State is once again opening the doors to the SLC park-space and leadership suites for our wider community to bring their children for a trick-or-treat event and we invite you to be a collaborative partner!

  • Date - Wednesday, October, 30th
  • Location - 3rd Floor of Alfred States Student Leadership Center
  • Time- 5pm to 7pm

There are a few ways to be involved:

  • Celebrate your campus affinities while engaging in this spirited community engagement event by signing your club/department/class up to have a table in the SLC to hand out "treats" to the community "treaters"
  • Can't donate your time but want to help with supplies? Donate candy or Halloween-themed swag to be handed out by campus organizations on the night.
  • Looking for something fun to do with your own children, bring them in costume to "trick-or-treat" in the SLC and help us spread the word to the wider community (we can even print a poster for you to put up if you have known spots for parents and guardians to take note)

As an added bit of seasonal fun, we have a door decorating contest between leadership suites in the SLC and invite you to cast your vote on our door decorating competition link or scanning a QR code that is available in the window of the Civic Leadership Suite (SLC 412). The winning suite will be announced after the trick-or treat event on Monday, October 30th and will get a boost to their leadership suite funding.

For sign up to support this event complete our trick-or-treat collaborators form. If you have any questions, please email civicengagement@alfredstate.edu
