Community Trick-or-Treat Event October 30th

Alfred State is once again opening the doors to the SLC park-space and leadership suites for our wider community to bring their children for a trick-or-treat event and we invite you to be a collaborative partner!  

  • Date - Wednesday, October, 30th 
  • Location - 3rd Floor of Alfred States Student Leadership Center 
  • Time- 5pm to 7pm

There are a few ways to be involved:

  • Celebrate your campus affinities while engaging in this spirited community engagement event by signing your club/department/class up to have a table in the SLC to hand out "treats" to the community "treaters" 
  • Can't donate your time but want to help with supplies? Donate candy or Halloween-themed swag to be handed out by campus organizations on the night. 
  • Looking for something fun to do with your own children, bring them in costume to "trick-or-treat" in the SLC and help us spread the word to the wider community (we can even print a poster for you to put up if you have known spots for parents and guardians to take note)

As an added bit of seasonal fun, we will be having a casual door decorating contest between leadership suites in the SLC and invite you to cast your vote by scanning a QR code that will be available in the window of our Civic Leadership Suite (recently named in honor of Pat Fogarty) for your favorite space during the week of October 23rd (the winning suite will be announced after the trick-or treat event on Monday, October 30th!

Taking resumes to the career fair helps employers remember you.   Whether you have a start or need to start your resume come to the PSU computer lab Friday 10/11 any time between Noon and 4 pm.  No registration required, no time limit on visits.  Students can receive quick resume reviews and support for starting a resume from scratch.

Student Staff Position- Housing Assistants!

Residential Services is Hiring Two More Housing Assistants!

The Office of Residential Services is now accepting applications for two more Housing Assistants in Getman/ RC Hall and Main Gate B for the Fall Semester!  Housing Assistants are staff members who will work within first year buildings and assist with facility management. Students must have a 2.25 gpa and not be on a current conduct status to be eligible to apply. Students receive half credit of their room, with a roommate.  Interested students may apply by following these instructions: 

  1. Go to your student portal and enter eRezLife through the “Sign Up for Housing” widget.
  2. Go to Forms on the left hand side. 
  3. Click on “Housing Assistant Application” and fill out the application.

Megabus is offering non-stop bus services to New York City and Alfred for Thanksgiving break. Dates and times of bus travel are listed below!

Alternate bus options are available through https://trailways.com. Please note that Trailways bus leaves from Hornell, NY and you will need to find transportation to the bus station.

Requests for Airport Shuttle must be to the Rochester Airport and students will have to fill out the Online travel request form for both their trips to and from the airport.

Homecoming Family Weekend 2024 Basket Raffle

Homecoming Family Weekend is fast approaching and it is time to start thinking  about our Annual Basket Raffle!  Is your department or organization interested in donating a basket for the raffle?  We encourage you to come up with a unique and fun theme for your basket!  Please reach out to Calsey Bump at BumpCE@alfredstate.edu or by calling X4959 to let us know if you are planning on donating a basket.  Baskets will need to be wrapped in cellophane and delivered to the Office of Student Engagement in the Student Leadership Center no later than Wednesday, October 16th.  Baskets will be displayed and tickets can be purchased in the Student Leadership Center in Room 204 on Friday, October 18th from 10am until 4pm and  at the Pep Rally Friday night near the Pioneer Stadium from 6:30PM - 10PM.  They will also be displayed at Homecoming on Saturday, October 19th during the tailgate festivities with tickets being drawn at halftime.  Tickets will be sold as a sheet of 25 tickets for $10.  You may purchase multiple sheets if desired.”

Do you love parades? On Friday October 18th at 6pm, HC/FW is featuring a parade that encourages floats, trailers or walking groups to celebrate their ALFRED STATE SPIRIT!! If you are a student group/club/organization/etc, faculty/staff department or alumni ALL are welcome to join! PLEASE register for this by visiting the events page and completing the registration via the hyperlinked registration form. Following the parade there will be multiple food options (dining dollars and meal swipes CAN be used!), a pep rally and live music from the Sweet Degenerates with FIREWORKS! 

Do you have a car that you love to show off? On Saturday October 19th at 10am, there will be a car show that will have $600 offered in CASH PRIZES, there will be a 1st place winner for alumni/guest and student categories and will each WIN $300!!!!!!!!! Alternative Spring Break Applications Are Now Open!

The application for our Alternative Spring Break trip is now open! 

Fall is here and before you know it, Spring will be at our doorstep and we are looking for the next group of pioneers to participate in our Service-Learning trip in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. If you love giving back to communities in need and soaking up some sunshine when the snow just won’t let go, our spring break service trip could be perfect for you! 

We will once again be traveling to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina to work with Habitat for Humanity during our 2025 spring break (March 9th-March 15th).  If you are interested in learning more or wish to be considered for the trip, we invite you to visit our Civic Engagement Pioneer page to submit your application. While we open this opportunity up for student volunteers, we welcome interested faculty/staff to also reach out in case we have need for additional chaperone support. 

Not sure if this trip is for you, please help us spread the word to others regarding this wonderful opportunity to take part in Habitat for Humanity’s Collegiate Challenge event so we can send a rock-star group of Alfred State Pioneers to support some community well-being down south!

commUNITY Potluck Series returns – help us celebrate home, heritage, community and culture through food!

Make a dish to share a taste of “home” and help enhance our culture of care in Alfred. The Center for Civic Leadership is partnering with Union University to revive a commUNITY potluck initiative.  This secular event welcomes all as we build commUNITY by engaging in conversation and sharing foods that evoke a feeling of home! Help us kick start this meaningful event this September, a month that is synonymous with sustainability, hunger action, and Hispanic Heritage.

Grant Money Available for your Fall Semester Bill

Alfred State College has been awarded funding for the Aid for Part-Time Study (APTS) grant for the 2024-2025 academic year. Students may be eligible to receive up to $1,000 for the Fall semester. 

Part-time students may obtain an application by emailing sfs@alfredstate.edu or visiting https://www.alfredstate.edu/financial-aid/forms and click on aid for Part-Time Study (APTS) application.

Some of the eligibility criteria for the APTS grant include:
- Be a matriculated student and consistently enrolled between three (3) and eleven (11) credit hours per semester
- Be a New York State resident
- Completed 2024-2025 FAFSA application
- Meet satisfactory academic progress
- Not receiving TAP or Part-Time TAP this semester

The deadline for the Fall semester is Friday, November 15, 2024.

The Fall Schedule for the Student Senate General Assembly Meeting is as follows:

The Student Senate General Assembly (GA) provides the opportunity for all Students of Alfred State to discuss issues/concerns and hear updates in regard to all matters that affect campus life. These topics include, but are not limited to:

3. Student Engagement & Clubs/Organizations

4. Commuter Affairs & Campus Parking

5. University Police & Campus Safety

6. Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging. 

This semester the Student Senate Executive Board will be raffling off three $250 gift cards at the last General Assembly (GA) on 12/3/2024. To receive a ticket for the raffle you must attend a GA meeting throughout the semester. Each attendance will earn you one ticket.

Attendees must show up on time. Late attendance forfeits your ability to receive your raffle ticket.
