Dear Students,

We are thrilled to have you arrive on campus and  look forward to seeing you at the many events planned for you at our unparalleled  Week of Welcome!  We want to ensure you have a smooth move-in so are providing some updates to help you prepare for the move-in. 

We want to provide you with timely information about final portions of construction activity and road work taking place around campus. These efforts are part of our ongoing commitment to improving our facilities and infrastructure, ensuring you a safer and more beautiful environment to enjoy. 

Important Information:

• Traffic Adjustment and Pattern for move-in: our improvements are nearing completion on the campus loop in front of EJ Brown. Unfortunately, this requires us to keep a section of the campus’ circular loop road near Peet Hall closed temporarily.  Those accessing building Peet, Braddon, Shults, or Burdick should use Upper College Drive from the Hillcrest Drive intersection.   Those accessing the entire MacKenzie complex, Maingate complex, or Townhouses should use the Lower College Drive (lower loop).   
• Automotive Families (Project Car): Rather than contend turning around with a trailer in tow, we recommend that anyone towing a project car drop their car off first (and your tools!) at the Applied Technology campus, then leave their trailer in Parking Lot #4, across from University Police (see map link below) on the Alfred Campus, while you move in.
• Parking and unloading: Residential Assistants (R.A.’s) and/or University Police Officers will be able to point you to the best unloading zone.  Specific parking areas may be limited due to construction.
• Bus Stops: the stop formerly located at Shults Hall, will be temporarily relocated to Parking Lot #38 (slightly downhill to Pioneer Center), to allow for the ACES shuttle to turn around easier.
• Pedestrian Safety: While walking around campus, please be mindful of signage and barricades directing pedestrian traffic. These measures are in place to protect you and ensure smooth navigation around the construction areas.

Our progress is noticeable with a new concrete walkway along the center spine of our campus and sections of newly paved roads that have all new infrastructure underneath.  We are entering a final stretch and appreciate your understanding and patience as we complete these necessary improvements. Looking for an opportunity to connect with students? This Friday the Office of Student Engagement will be hosting their second annual Staff vs Student Softball Game, from 3pm-5pm, at the softball diamond, above parking lot 20! (All equipment is provided) This will be a great opportunity to build rapport with our student body, as well as have some Welcome Week fun! The bus shelter from outside of Shults Hall has been temporarily relocated to the front of Parking Lot 38, due to construction. 

Parking lot 38 is the lot directly to the left of Pioneer Center, if you are facing the front of the building.

During Week of Welcome the Cultural Life Center and Campus Activities Board will be hosting "From Beats to Brillance: DJ Workshop" on Thursday, August 22nd from 6-9 pm in SLC Parkspace. Come learn how to scratch and spin with one of Upstate New York's finest, DJ Bella J. Everyone is welcome! 

Students should pick up parking passes Tuesday through Friday from 10am-3pm. University Police will have a staff member on the front porch handing out the hang tags. Returning students who are not coming in until the weekend can pick the passes up anytime over the first week of classes. All vehicles will need to have the passes displayed on rearview mirrors by Monday September 2nd.

•    Your billing information will appear and under "Adjustable Fees" you will enter your vehicle information (license plate number and state along with vehicle make, model, color, year).

If you are not able to register online, you may pay the vehicle registration fee in person at Student Records & Financial Services located in the Agriculture Science Building Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. You will then have to bring your receipt to the University Police Department and fill out your vehicle information and pick up your hang tag at that time.

The Student Senate Treasurer Training is scheduled for Tuesday, August 27th at 7:00 PM in SLC 310 (Small Event Space). Please arrive up to 15 minutes early to sign in.

Attendance Requirements:

• This training is mandatory for all Senate-funded clubs.
• Each organization must send their Club Treasurer and one additional Executive Board member to receive the THREE incentive points for this event.
• If the Club Treasurer is unavailable, the organization must still send two members to receive the incentive points. The Club Treasurer can arrange a separate training session with the Director of Finance & Operations, Tyler Ribble, to gain access to club funds.
• Members may represent more than one organization, but must sign in for each.

Recommendations:

• Club Advisors and professionals overseeing budgets funded by the Student Senate are encouraged to attend.

Important Note:

• Failure to attend will result in the organization's budget being frozen until proper training is completed. Incentive points cannot be earned through a substitute training session.

How to Take and Pass the New York State Notary Examination Training

Date/Time: October 4, 2024, 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Location: Alfred State campus, Central Dining Hall, Allegany Room
Cost: $125 includes required course textbook (book will be provided at training)

CSEA employees – please note: you may use a tuition benefit voucher to pay for the training course and then you can use the Certification & Licensure Examination Fee Reimbursement benefit to be reimbursed for the cost of the exam. This practical seminar helps prepare participants to successfully pass the NYS official notary examination. Four sample examinations and answer keys are provided to every participant as a self-study aid for review after the seminar. Attendance at this seminar is a MUST for every state notary examinee to properly prepare for the duties, authority and responsibility of holding a NYS notary commission.

Trainer: Alfred E. Piombino is the leading New York and national notary law and practice expert. He has personally prepared tens of thousands of people from across New York to pass the official examination. Piombino is the author of nine books, including Notary Public Handbook: A Guide for New York, Fourth Edition, court expert witness and is listed in Who's Who in American Law.

Are you still packing to return for the semester? Have you realised you might own too many clothes and shoes? Well, don't forget to pack some extra high heels to donate!! Grab them from your closet, or your mom's closet (ask for permission first) and bring them back to Alfred! Pi Nu Epsilon will hold a heel drive, collecting high heels that we will use for our Domestic Violence Awareness week. After this, the shoes will be donated to ACCORD so women in need can access formal shoes for job interviews and events.

We will start collecting donations from the 26th of August in front of our Leadership Suite, located at SLC 307. If you have any questions, please contact Bee Williams at williara@alfredstate.edu.

Western New York's “Wildest” Fall Outing!

UR/Jones Memorial Hospital is excited to host the 32nd Annual RidgeWalk & Run, Sunday, October 20th.  With a long reputation of being one of the premier autumn outdoor events in New York’s Southern Tier, RidgeWalk & Run is one of a kind.  Appealing to all levels of fitness, participants select from five (5) walking choices, or from three (3) competitive trail runs. In cooperation with over fifty (50) landowners, all trail participants are granted a unique “one day” private property pass, allowing them to traverse along linked parcels of breathtaking trails to finish on a rural equestrian farm.  The festive UR/Jones finish line tent treats all participants to a warm lunch, live music, health and wellness exhibits.  Swag bags and commemorative T-shirts are limited.   …See you on “The Ridge”!
