New Alfred State Voter Registration and Resource Portal!

Alfred State has enhanced its non-partisan political engagement resources and partnered with ALL IN to implement a voter registration and resource portal for our students! A new Register to Vote link can be found on the Student Portal Page under student resources. From that link you can either continue to voter registration resources that are relevant for you and the state you wish to be registered in or you can use a pull down menu in the top corner of the landing page that says Get Vote Ready to access additional resources such as:

If you are registering to vote in NYS the last day to have your registration logged with the Board of Elections is October 26th, but each state had different deadlines and we recommend that eligible students get registered ASAP so that you have time to verify your voter status, check your polling location, and make a plan for how plan to vote (i.e. mail in ballot, early voting location, scheduling a time to get to your polling location). Should you have questions about the voting process or navigating the above resources, we have staff that are able to assist on both the Alfred and Wellsville campus, their contact details and additional resources can be found on our Political Engagement page.

'Midterm Recovery' Workshop

The Student Success Center will be hosting the Midterm Recovery Workshop on Thursday, October 17th at 5pm in the Student Development Center, Room 109. If you are looking at your midterm grades and want to improve them, start with this workshop.  Strategies and options will be discussed as to the best course of action to achieve your goals this semester.

Parking Changes in Preparation for Homecoming

Help us welcome back our alumni and take part in the many festivities planning around Homecoming Family Weekend!

 As we prepare these events,  please note the following Parking Lot changes:

  1. Today, the West End (closest to the stadium) of Parking Lot 19/middle lot by stadium closed until Monday (10/21) to allow for a tent to accommodate planned Homecoming activities.
  2. On Friday (10/18) at 5 p.m., Parking Lots 18,19,20, 20A, and 22 (the lots closest to the stadium) will be closed until events begin on Saturday (10/19) at 9 a.m.  Students may move their cars into any other campus lot (not handicapped, fire lane, or no parking zones) for the weekend until Sunday at 8 p.m. 
  3. On Saturday, the Big Blue Trolley will be circling campus starting at 10 a.m. to transport guests to Pioneer Stadium.
  4. On Saturday, come enjoy the Pregame Tailgate in Lot 19 and the annual Car Show in Lot 20A starting at 10 a.m. 
  5. Later in the afternoon, enjoy the Activities Carnival (1:30 p.m.) and a Rock Band Performance (2:30 p.m. or right after the football game) in Parking Lot 20. 

 Again, students moving their vehicles may park in any open lot on campus between 5 p.m. on Friday (10/18) until Sunday night (10/20) at 8 p.m.

Apply for Thanksgiving Break Housing

Thanksgiving Break Housing Application

Residence halls will close at 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, for the Thanksgiving Break. The Residence halls will reopen at Noon on Sunday, December 1, 2024. Residential Services is aware that the final bus scheduled to leave Alfred leaves before 10:00 p.m. If you are here for an academic reason and cannot make travel arrangements for the evening of Tuesday, November 26, please contact your Residence Director to remain on campus that night. However, you must plan travel arrangements for the morning of Wednesday, November 27.

Only students who have been approved to stay for the break will be allowed in the residence halls.

All others may be charged with trespassing.

Students will only be approved who:

  • Live over 500 miles away (according to your home Banner Address)
  • Have a Special Circumstance (ex. You do not have a place to go)
  • Working for the college during the break (with Supervisors Approval)
  • Athletics commitment during the break (must be on roster submitted from Athletics)

If you wish to apply to stay for the break, please complete the "Break Housing Request" form on eRezLife. To access this form, please sign in to my.alfredstate.edu, select "housing," and then select the "Break Housing Request" form. 

Please notethat this form will close on Thursday, November 21.

Students going home for Thanksgiving Break? 

Megabus is offering non-stop bus services to New York City and Alfred for Thanksgiving break. Dates and times of bus travel are listed below! 

To New York City: 

Tuesday, November 26, 2024 departing from Orvis Activities Center or West University St at 2:30 p.m. 

To Alfred, NY 

Sunday, December 1, 2024 departing from Port Authority at 10:15am

Alternate bus options are available through https://trailways.com. Please note that Trailways bus leaves from Hornell, NY and you will need to find transportation to the bus station. 

Rochester Airport Shuttle 

Depart Alfred Wednesday, November 27 at 6am 

Return trip departs Rochester Airport Sunday, December 1st at 5pm 

Requests for Airport Shuttle must be to the Rochester Airport and students will have to fill out the Online travel request form for both their trips to and from the airport.

Homecoming/ Family Weekend 2024 Parade and Car Show!

Do you love parades? On Friday October 18th at 6pm, HC/FW is featuring a parade that encourages floats, trailers or walking groups to celebrate their ALFRED STATE SPIRIT!! If you are a student group/club/organization/etc, faculty/staff department or alumni ALL are welcome to join! PLEASE register for this by visiting the events page and completing the registration via the hyperlinked registration form. Following the parade there will be multiple food options (dining dollars and meal swipes CAN be used!), a pep rally and live music from the Sweet Degenerates with FIREWORKS! 

Do you have a car that you love to show off? On Saturday October 19th at 10am, there will be a car show that will have $600 offered in CASH PRIZES, there will be a 1st place winner for alumni/guest and student categories and will each WIN $300!!!!!!!!! The Fall Schedule for the Student Senate General Assembly Meeting is as follows:

The Student Senate General Assembly (GA) provides the opportunity for all Students of Alfred State to discuss issues/concerns and hear updates in regard to all matters that affect campus life. These topics include, but are not limited to:

3. Student Engagement & Clubs/Organizations

4. Commuter Affairs & Campus Parking

5. University Police & Campus Safety

6. Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging. 

This semester the Student Senate Executive Board will be raffling off three $250 gift cards at the last General Assembly (GA) on 12/3/2024. To receive a ticket for the raffle you must attend a GA meeting throughout the semester. Each attendance will earn you one ticket.

Attendees must show up on time. Late attendance forfeits your ability to receive your raffle ticket.

Are you in need of a job starting this semester that goes through May 2025? Would you be interested in a dynamic position as an AmeriCorps member helping potential students and their families learn about Financial Aid? It would be a great way to build your resume. If so, we may have an opportunity for you through the Financial Aid Work Study Program.

Grant Money Available for your Fall Semester Bill

Alfred State College has been awarded funding for the Aid for Part-Time Study (APTS) grant for the 2024-2025 academic year. Students may be eligible to receive up to $1,000 for the Fall semester. 

Part-time students may obtain an application by emailing sfs@alfredstate.edu or visiting https://www.alfredstate.edu/financial-aid/forms and click on aid for Part-Time Study (APTS) application.

Some of the eligibility criteria for the APTS grant include:
- Be a matriculated student and consistently enrolled between three (3) and eleven (11) credit hours per semester
- Be a New York State resident
- Completed 2024-2025 FAFSA application
- Meet satisfactory academic progress
- Not receiving TAP or Part-Time TAP this semester

The deadline for the Fall semester is Friday, November 15, 2024.
