Student Announce September 9, 2026

Parking Lots 20 and 20A (near Pioneer Stadium) will be closed beginning at 4:00 PM on Friday, September 11th, and will remain closed through the conclusion of the football game and tailgating festivities on Saturday.

If you are traveling or leaving a vehicle on campus for the weekend, please make sure your vehicle is moved out of Lots 20 and 20A before you leave campus.
Students may park in any open student parking lots over the weekend. However, all vehicles must be returned to their appropriate STUDENT PARKING areas by 7:00 AM Monday morning.

Upcoming Parking Closures:

• September 22 – Large-scale parking closure for the Fall Career Fair and Homecoming festivities

Vehicles remaining in closed parking lots or entering a closed lot after the posted closure time are subject to enforcement, up to and including towing at the owner's expense.

We are pleased to present the 2026  schedule for High Holy Day events, held at the Knight Club on the Alfred University campus and at the Hillel House at 18 S. Main Street in Alfred. Hillel at Alfred sponsors an erev Rosh Hashanah dinner, an erev Yom Kippur dinner and a Break Fast meal.  We will also stream services from the Central Synagogue in New York City at the Knight Club on erev Rosh Hashanah and erev Yom Kippur. All meals are kosher. Please go to AU connect  to reserve a space at the dinners. If you do not have an e-mail account at Alfred university, please contact Larry Greil (fgreil@alfred.edu) or Noa Broekman (ntb3@alfred.edu).

 Please let us know if you are a vegetarian or have special dietary needs. Remember:  if you make a reservation and do not come, Hillel still has to pay for your dinner. 

Hillel at Alfred also holds a Kiddush every Friday evening. We plan to have Sunday Bagel brunches at least once a month and regular Shabbat dinners. We plan to hold other events throughout the year as well. If you want to be notified of Hillel events, please contact Noa Broekman at ntb3@alfred.edu

Please join the Cultural Life Center and ASC Veterans United to observe the 25th Anniversary of 911 with a Step Challenge. Come honor the brave first responders, dedicated firefighters, and all 2,977 lives lost on that historic day. 
The event will run on Friday September 11, 2026 from 9 am to noon. Check in at main entrance to campus at the stoplight for a map and water.  

Participants will walk a loop around the campus, down the spine, and end at an information table outside the Student Leadership Center.  The challenge consists of 2200 Steps, symbolizing the height of the World Trade Center Towers.  

Water, snacks, and commemorative items will be provided.  All fitness levels are welcome to attend. 

We want to inform you that the International Save A Life Tour will be visiting Alfred State
College on September 16, 2026. You are invited to visit our international safe driving program
that includes hands-on Virtual Reality Impaired and Distracted Driving Simulators.

The Save A Life Tour provides safe driving educational services to The Department of Defense,
Connecticut D.O.T., New Hampshire Highway Safety, New York STOP-DWI, Missouri D.O.T.,
Michigan Highway Safety, Tennessee Highway Safety and more to inform students on the
dangers of driving impaired and distracted. International Save A Life Tour
The Save A Life Tour is a comprehensive high impact safe driving awareness program that
informs, educates, and demonstrates the potentially deadly consequences resulting from poor
choices and decisions made by the operator of a motor vehicle. The program specifically places
emphasis on the following driving situations: Distracted Driving, Impaired Driving, Driver
Experience, Improper Driver Behavior and Seat Belt Usage. The Save A Life Tour utilizes
several methods for education including; video presentation, speaking presentation, interactive
demonstration with simulators, pre and post surveys and take-a-ways including a pledge card
and a wristband.

On September 17th of every year, we celebrate the anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution in 1787. We also celebrate National Voter Registration Day on September 15th this year and have multiple opportunities to connect and explore voter education and registration resources throughout the month of September and beyond! 

Below are some of Septembers engagement opportunities around voter education, registration, and our democracy (updates made as they are added to the calendar): 

Bergren Forum - Governed By the Present: Reclaiming the Power of the Local Vote 

• September 3rd - Nevins Theater AU Campus 12:15-1p.m.
• While national politics consumes the headline news, the policies that directly shape our day-to-day lives, from public schools and housing to local infrastructure, including data center construction, are decided right in our own backyards.   Municipal and local elections routinely suffer from low voter turnout, despite the immediate impact these results have on our lives.  For this reason, local governance remains a high-leverage arena where individual actions can have a significant impact.  This talk will focus on the importance of local governance, the transformative potential of community organizing, and the profound fulfillment that comes from taking ownership of the place we call home.

Know Your Rights: Making Midterms Matter - Constitution Day Program

• September 17th 
• SLC 310 from 5-6pm 
• Increase your civic knowledge in this interactive Constitution Day program where we explore the history of voting rights in the United States and engage in conversation around local and national voter engagement. This program is a collaborative effort between the Center for Civic Leadership, Dr. Mark Bloxom, and the Cultural Life Center.

Digital Democracy Webinar series with League of Women Voters - Rewiring Democracy: How AI Will Transform Our Politics, Government, and Citizenship

  • Bruce Schneier and Nathan E. Sanders, authors of the recent book Rewiring Democracy, presenting an informative wide-ranging exploration of how AI will alter every facet of democracy, and how to harness the technology to distribute rather than concentrate power.

Important reminders:

• There is no fee to apply
• Students who plan to attend commencement will need to pay a fee
• Do NOT apply for May 2027 graduation at this time
• Students graduating in December who plan to return in the spring in a new program must apply for readmission through the Admissions Office
  ➜ Registration is not allowed until readmission is approved

Please apply by the deadline to avoid delays in receiving your diploma.

SLC Building Hours – Fall Semester

The Student Leadership Center (SLC) is open during the following hours for the semester:

Monday–Saturday: 7:00 AM–Midnight
Sunday: 7:00 AM–10:00 PM

The Center for Civic Leadership is proud to be partnering once again with Alfred University and the Village of Alfred to host our 4th annual Alfred Day of Service.  If you are interested in volunteering, we welcome helping hands as we engage in a variety of identified projects, from painting and gardening to street and creek clean-up.

Service will take place following opening remarks and introduction to service projects at 9am and will continue until 12 (or until work is complete).
