To support a smooth start to the 2026-2027 academic year, Alfred State has updated its parking regulations that became effective July 1. These changes are designed to keep spaces available for those who are parked correctly, deter parking violations, and promote orderly traffic flow across campus.

What’s changing:

• One unified student parking system: Student parking is fully integrated so it’s clearer where they can park and easier to find an open space.      There are no subcategories.
• Parking fine amounts increase by $5 (for example, a standard $25 ticket becomes $30). This update, after more than fifteen years of the former rate, aims to ensure there is some deterrence to parking in restricted areas (like faculty-staff parking areas).
• Escalated fines for repeated violations in the same academic year (to address persistent non-compliance in restricted areas like faculty-staff parking):
  • More than 5 tickets in academic year: each additional ticket is $50
  • More than 10 tickets in academic year: each additional ticket is $100
  • More than 20 tickets: parking privileges may be suspended or revoked (a last resort for a vehicle operator unwilling to alter behavior).
• The goal is not to issue more tickets — it’s to reduce them through greater compliance in restricted areas like faculty-staff parking. Those cost escalations for persistent violations reset after the conclusion of the academic year.

Parking Lots 20 and 20A (near Pioneer Stadium) will be closed beginning at 4:00 PM on Friday, September 4, and will remain closed through the conclusion of the football game and tailgating festivities.

If you are traveling or leaving a vehicle on campus for the weekend, please make sure your vehicle is moved out of Lots 20 and 20A before you leave campus.
Students may park in any open student parking lots over the weekend. However, all vehicles must be returned to their appropriate STUDENT PARKING areas by 7:00 AM Monday morning.

Upcoming Parking Closures:

• September 11 – Additional closure in the stadium area
• September 22 – Large-scale parking closure for the Fall Career Fair and Homecoming festivities

⚠️ ENFORCEMENT:
Vehicles remaining in closed parking lots or entering a closed lot after the posted closure time are subject to enforcement, up to and including towing at the owner's expense.

Student Senate funded clubs and organizations must have 2 members attend for the entire conference to be eligible for bonus points. Attendees may represent a maximum of 2 clubs/organizations. Clubs are welcome and encouraged to send additional members!

You are invited to join us for our "On The Block" Collaborative event, on Friday, Sept. 25th, from 5:30-7:30pm, at the Pioneer Stadium!

 Event Overview

On The Block is a collaborative, campus‑wide cultural celebration hosted by the Student Senate in partnership with the Cultural Life Center, the Office of Student Engagement, and multiple student organizations. The event builds community, fosters creativity, and strengthens connections through interactive games, live music, food, fashion, and shared experiences.

The program is designed to give back to Alfred State students by creating a space where they feel celebrated, engaged, and connected to campus life and the surrounding community. Participating organizations will sponsor and host activities that provide entertainment and meaningful engagement while showcasing their missions.

PLEASE COME JOIN ERGO, ALFRED STATE COLLEGE'S LITERARY MAGAZINE

Students, faculty, and staff are invited to submit their original works of art, poetry, and prose by sending them to ERGO@alfredstate.edu.  Dr. Aniko Constantine (SDC Bldg., Rm. 309), is the Faculty Advisor for ERGO.  If you wish, your submission could be published anonymously or under a pseudonym. 

The first meeting is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 14, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. in the Student Development Center faculty lounge located on the 2nd floor, Rm. 242.  

This meeting is open to any students interested in possibly joining ERGO.  This committee will meet 5 or 6 times during the semester. 

Take a moment and review one of our previous publications located in several of the buildings around campus.

Alfred State Farm hunting permits will be available beginning Monday, September 7th at 6:00 a.m. at Dispatch in the University Police Department.  We have a limited number of deer archery & muzzleloader, turkey and small game permits.  You will need to provide a valid ID to obtain a permit.

Join Global Engagement and Civic Wellbeing for our fall commUNITY Potluck series in the village of Alfred!

Make a dish to share a taste of “home” and help enhance our culture of care in Alfred. The commUNITY potlucks are a monthly gathering for our entire community to engage in conversation and foster care and connection over foods that remind us of home. We are entering our 3rd academic year running this initiative, which is sponsored through the Center for Civic Leadership. While we look forward to putting more dates on the calendar next academic year we would love to celebrate the end of the semester with as many people as possible and are grateful for all who have come out to contribute each event!

Musical Auditions for the Drama Club production of Catch Me If You Can will be held Wednesday, September 2nd (7-9pm) and Thursday, September 3rd (6:15-8:15pm), with a required dance audition on Saturday September 5th (2-5pm), all in the Orvis Auditorium.

Please prepare 1–2 minutes of a song of your choice and a 1-minute monologue.

You only need to attend one main audition, plus the mandatory dance audition. When you arrive, we’ll also ask for your schedule to help us create the rehearsal schedule. (This includes stage crew.)

The Student Success Center will be hosting the Habits for Good Academic Standing Workshop on Wednesday, September 2nd at 5pm in the Student Development Center, Room 109. Come learn strategies and techniques to improve or maintain your academic standing and feel more confident in your college career.

If students are expecting a refund and need books or supplies now, they can add funds to CSA (Campus Spending Account). CSA can be added to the semester bill and used at the Campus Store by the next business day. View our  CSA Instructions guide for more information. NEW – Teams Connector Widget for myLearning

On Monday September 7th, 2026 a new Teams Connector Widget is being released in myLearning.

What this means for Faculty:

• You will see a new Teams Connector Widget in your myLearning course
• You will have the option as an instructor whether or not you wish to use this for your class
• If the Widget is not configured students will see a blank Widget placeholder

Use this Help Guide to set up your Teams Connector Widget for the first time. (For any issues with the Widget, please contact the Alfred State Help Desk (helpdesk@alfredstate.edu).

What this means for Students:

• Students will see a new Teams Connector Widget in their myLearning courses
• Usage will be up to the instructor for the course and turning this feature on is at the instructor's discretion
• If the Widget is not configured, they will see a blank Widget placeholder in their course
