Parking Lot 3 (by SLC/UPD/TH's) closing at 4pm on Feb. 6th-University Police

Parking Lot #3 (by SLC/UPD/TH's) will be closing at 4pm on Friday, February 6th. Parking Lot #3 will remain closed into the weekend until the Admitted Student Day guests have cleared out on Saturday evening. Students and visitors that are being required to move should park in any other available residential student parking lots. Please remember that Parking lot #4 (10 Elm) is NOT a residential student parking lot and you should refrain from moving your vehicles there.

There is always available parking in lots 19, 20, 20a (near the Pioneer Stadium) or parking lot 31 (which can be accessed behind Peet Hall).

Vehicles that remain in closed parking lots, or re-enter after the closing time are subject to enforcement up to and including towing at the owner’s expense. Please spread the word to your fellow classmates and continue to monitor your daily announcements, as there will be many parking lot closures coming up.

Help Digitally Preserve Black History During our Douglass Day Transcribe-a-thon

Help us celebrate Fredrick Douglass while taking part in the international Douglass Day efforts to digitally archive Black history. This year’s transcribing efforts will feature the Colored Conventions Project and the 14th Amendment.

We will live stream the event and have instructions to help guests join in the live transcribing efforts. We will also be joined by a guest from the League of Women Voters and have further resources regarding voter registration available in the Hinkle Library Gallery along with Douglass Day themed birthday cakes created and donated by our very own culinary students as part of the Douglass Day Bake Off competition.

  • When: Friday, February 13th
  • Where: Hinkle Library Classroom
  • Time: 12PM – 3PM

Location is equipped with computers or you cab bring your laptop  to join transcribing efforts.

Whether you can come for the full three hours or just come for a half hour, we welcome all levels of engagement and hope to have your support with preserving Black history for future generations!

In addition to our on campus event, we are supporting a button making and awareness event at Kindred Collective in the village of Alfred and the cakes made by our culinary students will further support efforts at regional libraries who are celebrating Douglass Day alongside us, broadening community connection!

The Center for Civic Leadership would like to thank the English and Humanities Department, Culinary Department, Cultural Life and Hinkle Library for your collaborative support in bringing this opportunity to our community! Should you have any questions or should faculty wish to send students for extra credit, please reach out to Cyan Corwine (corwincy@alfredstate.edu) and Dr. Travis Mattison (MattesTW@alfredstate.edu)
