On Thursday, September 24 at 5 PM, the Hinkle Memorial Library at Alfred State is hosting "Let's Talk: Reading," a panel event featuring our own students and local writers. Panelists will describe why they love to read and how their love of reading has affected their writing. We invite all students, faculty, and staff to attend and share their love of reading; audience members will have opportunities to answer and ask questions, too! The event will take place in the Library Classroom and refreshments will be provided. See you there!

Alfred State has implemented a new Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy to provide guidance on the responsible, ethical, and appropriate use of AI technologies across the campus community. We encourage all students, faculty, and staff to review the policy and familiarize themselves with its expectations and requirements.

Planning a meeting, program, or event with food? ACES Catering is here to help make it easy, affordable, and safe! Whether you're ordering pizza for a club meeting or planning food for a larger campus event, here’s what you need to know before placing an order.

Food Options for Your Event:

Small Meetings & Closed-Group Events
For department meetings, club meetings, or closed events, you may choose food from:

• ACES Catering
• Any approved local restaurant
• Another food option of your choice

Campus-Wide Events
If your event is open to the broader campus or has additional planning needs:

• ACES Catering or approved local restaurants are the go-to options.
• If you wish to bring in food from a different vendor, you’ll need to submit an Alternative Food/Catering Vendor Request Form.
• ACES Catering can help you choose options and guide you through the approval process.   
  • If you’re ordering food from an outside vendor, approval is required before you advertise or promote your event.

Alternative Food Vendor Requests – What to Know:

• Submit your request at least 2 weeks before your event
• Include: 
  • A current Health Permit from the food vendor
    (ACES Catering can help request this)
  • A fully completed request form and your signature

When ordering DoorDash, Spark, Instacart, Walmart delivery, etc., please do not have your order sent to the mailroom. Any orders being delivered to the mailroom will be turned away. Please have these shipments sent to your dorm rooms, and make arrangements to meet the delivery drivers. 

Also, as a reminder to all students, please wait until after you have an email from the mailroom before going to pick up your packages.

When you receive delivery confirmation from the carrier (Amazon, FedEx. UPS, etc.), that does not mean your package is ready to be picked up. 

The mailroom processes hundreds of packages a day. Once we have them in our possession it may still take hours to process them before they are ready to be picked up. 

If you do not get an email from the mailroom within a business day after your get notified your package was delivered, email your tracking number to mailroom@alfredstate.edu and we can help you locate it.

Welcome back for another great academic year! 

Here in Health and Wellness, we have already been busy seeing students. Upper respiratory viruses are the most common medical diagnosis at Health and Wellness Services, so far.  Symptoms may include a runny nose, sore throat and cough that could last for a couple of days to a couple weeks.  In addition, there have been cases of flu (Influenza A) on campus.  Flu symptoms may include feeling feverish or chills, a cough, sore throat, muscle aches, and/or fatigue.  Learn more  by visiting the NYS Health Connector - Flu Tracker Weekly - NYAPD.  Recommendations from our medical team include getting the flu shot, rest, fluids, and over-the-counter pain relievers and possibly decongestants. These infections are usually viral and typically resolve within one to two weeks on their own. If symptoms last longer than 10 days, then you should be seen by a medical provider. Overall, ways to lower your risk of infection include the following:  getting plenty of sleep, staying physically active, managing your stress, drinking plenty of fluids, and eating nutritious food.

As always, as a student, you are able to be seen by our medical staff and given over-the-counter medications and prescription medications, if needed, at no cost to you (some restrictions apply). Please, don’t hesitate to reach out if you wish to be evaluated by our team.  Alfred Campus- call us at 607-587-4200 to set up a time to visit (appointment only).  Wellsville Campus- call 607-587-3141 or visit the health center in the PSU for a walk-in appointment.

Medical excuses or "notes" excusing students from class will not be provided. However, confirmation dates and times a student received treatment can be accessed through the student health portal, to be provided to their faculty.

 Event Overview

On The Block is a collaborative, campus‑wide cultural celebration hosted by the Student Senate in partnership with the Cultural Life Center, the Office of Student Engagement, and multiple student organizations. The event builds community, fosters creativity, and strengthens connections through interactive games, live music, food, fashion, and shared experiences.

The program is designed to give back to Alfred State students by creating a space where they feel celebrated, engaged, and connected to campus life and the surrounding community. Participating organizations will sponsor and host activities that provide entertainment and meaningful engagement while showcasing their missions.

Diplomas are NOT automatically awarded.

How to apply:

You should also:

• Contact your academic department to confirm all graduation requirements are met
• Review your degree progress in DegreeWorks

Deadline

October 5, 2026
(This deadline is required to receive a December 2026 diploma.)

Important reminders:

• There is no fee to apply
• Students who plan to attend commencement will need to pay a fee
• Do NOT apply for May 2027 graduation at this time
• Students graduating in December who plan to return in the spring in a new program must apply for readmission through the Admissions Office
  ➜ Registration is not allowed until readmission is approved

Open Room Changes and Consolidations 

Due to a record number of new students joining our campus community this term, Residential Services is shifting how we handle the Open Room Change process. We are actively adjusting our approach to ensure every student is supported, and we will share full details below on the updated steps and timeline.

Room Consolidations will begin Monday, September 7th and go until Friday, September 11th. 

Occasionally, through no fault of their own, students who sign up to live in a double room find themselves without a roommate. Unfortunately, all students who live in a double room must be consolidated with another student in a similar situation.  Students will have the opportunity to meet other students at a mixer set up in the residence hall by the building supervisor, so students should look for an email from their RD/AD about that meeting.  We will not be doing room buyouts.

In Building Changes will begin Tuesday, September 22nd through Friday, September 25th 

Students wanting to move within their residence hall will see their Residence Director during their office hours.

Out of Building Changes will begin Monday, September 28th and go through Wednesday, September 30th 

See Residential Services in the Townhouse Commons between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. 

See Residential Services in the Townhouse Commons between 4:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. for after hours assistance. 

Depending on the move, there may be an increase or decrease in the cost of housing. Students are encouraged to review the Room Rates prior to completing any move. Information on room rates can be found on our Housing Costs page.

This process must be completed within 24 hours of starting the room change.
