Program Exit (PSLO) Surveys and Spring PDW Assessment Reporting
Bridget JacobsMay. 12, 2026
Program Exit (PSLO) Survey results were uploaded to Watermark Planning & Self-Study yesterday (Monday, May 11) for those programs participating in these surveys. The Program Exit Surveys ask students to rate how well the program prepared them to achieve each program student learning outcome. They were uploaded to the first PSLO in each participating program's 2025-26 Academic Assessment Plan, in the Program Exit Survey or similarly titled measure. The reports are in PDF format.
Important! Each PSLO being assessed should have a Program Exit Survey measure or equivalent, and the PDF results can be used to complete these measures in the rest of the program's annual academic assessment plan.
If you don't find survey results uploaded to your program in Watermark Planning & Self-Study by Tuesday, May 12, this means there were no surveys completed or there were no graduating students from the program. A note was added to the exit survey measure's findings if there were no results. The surveys will remain open until Friday, May 22, so if there are graduating students from your program, please reach out to them to ask them to complete the survey. All students received emailed survey links and reminders to complete the survey addressed from Bridget Jacobs, Alfred State College Surveys.
Questions about Program Exit Surveys or about assessment? Contact Bridget Jacobs at jacobsbm@alfredstate.edu. I also look forward to seeing many of you during the Assessment PDW sessions today on the Alfred and Wellsville campuses (see the PDW schedule for times, locations and details).

Last Reminder! Program Exit (PSLO) Surveys Sent to Students Expected to Graduate
Bridget JacobsMay. 8, 2026
Last Reminder! Program Exit (PSLO) Surveys have been sent to students who are expected to complete their programs this spring from those departments/programs that participate in this college-wide assessment activity. These surveys ask students how well they think their programs prepared them to succeed in each of the expected student learning outcomes. These surveys are the main indirect assessment activity that most programs use and they are very important to our academic assessment plan.
Students received an email to their Alfred State email address from Bridget Jacobs, Alfred State College-Surveys at Surveys@alfredstate.edu and most of them will also see a pop-up box in myLearning encouraging them to "Please Complete Your Course Evaluations and Surveys".
To maintain high response rates, please encourage graduating students to access and complete the survey. If students do not find the survey in MyLearning, please ask them to look in their Alfred State email for an email asking them how well they think their program prepared them to succeed so they can access the survey from there. Thank you!
Reminder! Program Exit (PSLO) Surveys Sent to Students Expected to Graduate
Bridget JacobsMay. 5, 2026
Important reminder as we approach the end of the semester! Program Exit (PSLO) Surveys have been sent to students who are expected to graduate from those departments/programs that participate in this college-wide assessment activity*. These surveys ask students how well they think their programs prepared them to succeed in each of the expected student learning outcomes. These surveys are the main indirect assessment activity that most programs use and they are very important to our academic assessment plan.
To maintain high response rates, please encourage students to access and complete the survey. Students should look for an email from Bridget Jacobs, Alfred State College - Surveys. Most of the surveys can be accessed from MyLearning as well. It only takes a minute to complete and will help us assess and improve student learning! Responses are anonymous and student names will not appear anywhere on the survey.
If you have any questions or your students have any difficulty accessing the survey, contact Bridget Jacobs, Director of Assessment, Accreditation and Program Planning at jacobsbm@alfredstate.edu. Thank you very much for your participation and for helping ensure that Alfred State graduates "hit the ground running!"
*IACBE-accredited programs in the Business Department do not participate in this survey.

Engineering Technology Projects on Display in SET Building
Matthew LawrenceApr. 30, 2026
Please stop in for a self-guided tour of completed student projects in room 252 SET! There are interactive projects from two different courses:
Students in MECH 4134 - Introduction to Renewable Energy - completed simulated smart homes this semester. We have eight examples - each is a poster board full of sensors and actuators demonstrating how a central microcontroller can be used to control things we use every day in different areas of a home to reduce energy consumption. Students used AI generated code to program the microcontrollers, and the techniques and findings from their experience with AI coding were presented at an American Society of Engineering Education conference last weekend. The original assignment, the project grading rubric, and a lab partner contribution rubric are also available for review.
Also in 252 SET, you will find an “arcade-style” claw machine entirely designed and fabricated by a group of five seniors in BSET 8003 – Senior Project. Try your luck – no quarters required. Group members include graduating engineers from the mechatronics, computer, and mechanical engineering technology programs.
Both projects were funded in part with applied learning grants from the VPAA’s office (Thank you!!). Please stop in to see some of the amazing things our students are doing.
The rooms will be open 29Apr through 01May from 8am - 3pm.

Join us for a Faculty Showcase and Roundtable Conversation on Mentor AI and Visible AI
Deepa DeshpandeMar. 25, 2026
Join us this Thursday, March 26, at 11:30 am, for the second roundtable conversation featuring two use cases each, of Mentor AI and Visible AI assignments. - Visible AI (VAI) is intentionally designed with academic integrity at its core.
- Mentor AI offers a broader student-facing ecosystem and learning support environment.
Together, they raise important questions we’ll explore:
- How can both platforms support academic integrity while enabling responsible student use of AI?
- How do we design assignments that build AI literacy, not dependency?
- What does effective, transparent AI integration look like in practice?

Recommend a student who needs a peer mentor
Amy BabcockFeb. 17, 2026
A peer mentor is an upper-class student who helps students examine academic concerns and perceived barriers to success.
Common topics peer mentors cover:

Students can meet a peer mentor weekly or just a few times in the semester as needed.

🎉 30-Second Scholarship Universe Classroom Pitch for Students 🎉
Mary PerkinsFeb. 11, 2026
PLEASE remind students to log in to Scholarship Universe!
Here is a 30-second quick pitch you can share in your classrooms or even in the hallway:
Alfred State has a new scholarship platform called Scholarship Universe. It’s the one place where students can be matched with both internal and external scholarships.
5 Things to Know:
- When students log in, they’ll land on a dashboard. To unlock scholarships, the most important step is answering the matching questions — they can click the green bar with the dollar signs at the top or the “Questions” tab on the left.
- As students answer questions, the system automatically matches them with scholarships they may qualify for. Matches can be viewed under the “Scholarships” tab on the left toolbar. Scholarships are labeled as Match, Partial Match, or Non-Match.
- Students can see application-based scholarships under the “Applications” tab, including a section for ones that are “Ready to Start.”
- If documents are required, students can upload everything directly under the “My Docs” tab.
- It’s quick, it’s easy, and it’s absolutely worth it — scholarships are open NOW, so students should log in and get started.

🎉 Scholarship Universe – A Time-Saving Tool for Faculty & Students
Mary PerkinsJan. 27, 2026
We have officially integrated our private donor scholarships within Scholarship Universe! With this database being a centralized scholarship platform, it is designed to make the scholarship process simpler, faster, and more efficient for everyone.
✨ Why this matters:
Scholarship Universe significantly reduces manual work, streamlines the review process, and helps ensure students are matched with scholarships they actually qualify for, all in one place!
As students return to the classroom, we kindly ask for your help in spreading the word by encouraging them to log in and complete their matching questions.
https://alfredstate.scholarshipuniverse.com
📌 Important to know:
In order for students to be matched with internal and external scholarships for the upcoming academic year, they must answer the matching questions within Scholarship Universe. If those questions aren’t completed, students won’t appear as eligible applicants during the review process.
As shared in our previous announcement, once we have fully learned and tested the system, we will offer training sessions at various times and days to walk faculty and staff through the scholarship review and selection process. Our goal is to ensure everyone feels comfortable and confident using this new tool before diving in.
Your encouragement will help students take full advantage of this system—and will ultimately save everyone time down the road. Thank you for helping us launch this exciting new tool!
Questions or curious to learn more? We’re happy to help!
