Important Federal Student Loan Changes for 2026-2027
Recent federal changes will impact student loan eligibility beginning with the 2026-2027 academic year.
Federal Direct Student Loans
• You must be enrolled in 12 credits to receive your full Federal Direct Loan eligibility.
• Students enrolled in 6–11 credits will receive reduced loan amounts. For example, a student enrolled in 6 credits will receive half of their eligible loan amount.
• If you start the semester full-time and later drop or withdraw from classes, your future loan eligibility may be reduced.
Important Billing Note
Students enrolled in 6–11 credits will see full loan eligibility displayed on their bill. However, loan amounts will be recalculated before funds are disbursed to comply with federal regulations. As a result, the loan amount shown on your bill will be reduced.
Parent PLUS Loans
Parent PLUS Loans now have a $20,000 annual limit and a $65,000 lifetime limit per student. Some continuing students may qualify for prior loan limits based on federal borrowing history. Transfer students beginning Fall 2026 are not eligible for the prior loan limit exception.
