Intensive Study Hours

I hope this finds you well and the end of the semester is going smoothly for you! I am sending this email as a reminder that Intensive Study Hours have start Sunday December 3 at 8:00 PM and last until the end of the semester, 10:00 PM on December 15th.  Intensive Study Hours were implemented to make sure that the residence halls are quiet, so students are able to better focus on preparing for finals and completing final projects in the last two weeks.  The important information can be found below:

  • Intensive Study Hours begin Sunday, December 3 at 8 PM and last until December 15.
  • Intensive Study Hours include the weekends.
  • Intensive Study Hours are perpetual quiet hours with a relief period from 4PM- 7Pm.  This means that regular hours are from 4 PM-7Pm each day and outside of that time period, quiet hours will be enforced.
  • No overnight guests and guests after 10 PM
  • This email and the flyers around the building count as your warning.
  • A first violation will result in the situation being documented, and you will receive a hand delivered letter that night that you have your first violation and that a second violation will result in relocation.
  • A second violation will result in relocation from the residence hall and you will move into another spot on campus for the rest of the semester and you would not be allowed back into your regular residence hall until you are done with finals to grab any items you would need for back home/ return anything from your temporary assignment that you would not need to bring home over break.

What’s Going Around- Health and Wellness Services

Upper respiratory viruses continue to be the most common medical diagnosis at Health and Wellness Services.  Symptoms may include a runny nose, sore throat and a persistent cough that could last up to a couple weeks.  In addition, there have recently been diagnosed cases of flu (Influenza A) on campus. Flu symptoms may include feeling feverish or chills, a cough, sore throat, muscle aches, and/or fatigue.

Recommendations from our medical team include rest, fluids, and over-the-counter pain relievers and possibly decongestants. These infections are usually viral and typically resolve within two weeks on their own.  Overall, ways to lower your risk of infection include the following:  plenty of sleep, stay physically active, manage your stress, drink plenty of fluids, and eat nutritious food.

As always, don’t hesitate to reach out if you wish to be evaluated by our team.  Alfred Campus- call us at 607-587-4200 to set up a time to visit (appointment only).  Wellsville Campus- call 607-587-3141 or visit the health center in the PSU for a walk-in appointment.

University Police

Community Action Angels – Holiday Fund Raising Initiatives:

University Police, is again trying to raise money for ACCORD's Community Action Angels.

This year ACCORD is encouraging cash donations so they can purchase gift cards, donations of gift cards in any denomination for WalMart or DG or Amazon or other stores, and new winter coats for boys and girls, any age.

Food will be a need this year, too. Their pantry has served about 40% more clients each month since July and they welcome donations of any kind of shelf stable products.

At this time, all donations can be dropped off at the University Police Department by Friday, December 8th.

If you have any questions or would like to work on this initiative with the University Police Department  please contact Lt. Kris Bianchi (BianchKS@alfredstate.edu).

Your support goes a long way to help make the holiday season brighter throughout our community.
