Workshop and discussion with SUNY AI Fellow Michelle Malinovsky

Please consider attending a workshop and discussion with Michelle Malinovsky, one of the SUNY AI For the Public Good Fellows, on Thursday, April 30 from 12:30-3:30 in SLC 408. Michelle is a librarian and English professor at Onondaga Community College; while her session will be targeted at those audiences here, it will be applicable to all who wish to build their understanding of AI literacy.

The session will begin with a hands-on workshop to assist faculty in incorporating AI literacy into their courses (until about 2 PM), followed by a presentation/discussion about classroom activities, challenges, and anything folks want to talk about. Please bring your laptop and feel free to attend any or all of the event!

We will provide a virtual option via Teams for people who are not on campus; however, those people may not be able to fully participate, so in-person attendance is recommended. (Michelle will be here in person.)

Student Ambassadors Needed

Dear Faculty and Staff,

Help us find the next faces of Alfred State!

The Admissions Office is gearing up to build a fantastic team of Student Ambassadors for the 2627 year, and we’re hoping you can help us spot the stars. If you know students who are outgoing, dependable, and genuinely love being part of the Alfred State community, we’d love to hear from you.

Student Ambassadors play an important role in welcoming prospective students and their families by serving as Student Tour Guides or Student Callers. We’re looking for students who represent Alfred State with pride and can share their experiences in a friendly, authentic way.

Your recommendations go a long way in helping us create a team that truly reflects the best of Alfred State. If someone comes to mind, please send their name to georgell@alfredstate.edu.

Thanks for your continued support and for helping us showcase what makes Alfred State such a great place to be!

2026/2027 Holiday Pay Waiver for Classified Employees

The collective bargaining agreements between the State and CSEA, Council 82, M/C (Grade 22 and below), DC-37, NYSCOPBA, PBANYS, and PEF, allow employees to waive holiday compensation.

Consequently, between April 2 and May 15, 2026, employees may elect to change their holiday waiver, in writing, using the Holiday Waiver form found on our website, under Human Resources under Employee forms box Waiver of Holiday Compensation Election Form. This form must be on file if you elect to waive holiday pay and choose to receive instead compensatory time off for holidays worked. The waiver will remain in effect until at least April 1, 2027. Employees may also elect to revoke any waiver of holiday compensation now in effect by filing this same form. If you wish to keep your current holiday pay or waiver status, you do not need to submit an updated form.

Please forward completed forms to Amber Adams, in Human Resources, no later than May 15, 2026.

Capital Construction Project Process – Capital Construction Office

A new policy outlining the process for capital construction projects was introduced in January and is now available to be used going forward.

This policy, Capital Construction Projects, is intended to provide clarity and consistency around how capital construction projects are initiated, reviewed, and advanced. Capital construction at ASC is defined as projects that involve work with fixed building assets. There are two primary elements that require us to follow SUNY Capital Construction requirements (one or both can be true):

  • The project, on state property, changes or improves the building structure and components.
  • State dollars are used to fund the project and payment is processed through a state account.

The policy introduces a standard Capital Construction Project Request Form to support early planning and coordination. Faculty and staff planning capital construction work are encouraged to review the policy and use the application form when considering future projects.

Questions can be directed to the Office of Capital Construction, at construction@alfredstate.edu, as needed.

As members of the Alfred State community, you see this impact every day. If you’re able, consider making a gift to support these meaningful opportunities for our students.

Make your spring gift today and help our Pioneers grow.

Thank you for all you do to support Alfred State students, inside and outside the classroom.

OMH Virtual Wellness Groups Calendar for April 2026

The Office of Mental Health offers all employees an opportunity to practice various coping skills and strengthen their resilience through OMH Wellness Groups, which aligns with OMH’s vision of supporting a healthy workplace environment. The groups include deep breathing and simulation exercises to allow employees to practice rather than have group discussions. Group sessions offer a warm, inviting space that fosters relaxation virtually and provides examples of calming techniques and basic coping skills. Remember that the mind and body are one, and psychological health is just as important as physical health to your overall well-being.

The group sessions are free, confidential, anonymous, and virtual employees can call in from any phone. Group sessions include Monday Meditation, Mindful Mondays, Taking Care of Mind & Body, and Tending to Self. Please see the calendars for group session details and how to join.
