Tips for Successful Course Registration

Fall registration begins Monday, April 6. Here are some tips to ensure a smooth registration process:

Meet with Your Advisor Early: Schedule a meeting with your academic advisor before April 6 to discuss your course choices, confirm they align with your degree requirements, and get your registration PIN and time ticket. This step is essential to avoid any registration delays.

  1. Register Promptly: Sign up for your classes as soon as registration opens. Courses can fill up quickly, especially popular or required ones, so registering early gives you the best chance to secure your preferred schedule.
  2. Check Financial Aid Messages: Pay attention to any financial aid notifications that appear while registering. Financial aid can be affected if you’re enrolling in a repeated course or one that doesn’t count toward your degree, which might lead to unexpected charges.
  3. Registration Instructions (How-to Guides) are available by visiting my.AlfredState.edu, selecting “Academics,” and then choosing “Additional Academic Info” on the “Academic Resources” card.

OMH Virtual Wellness Groups Calendar for April 2026

The Office of Mental Health offers all employees an opportunity to practice various coping skills and strengthen their resilience through OMH Wellness Groups, which aligns with OMH’s vision of supporting a healthy workplace environment. The groups include deep breathing and simulation exercises to allow employees to practice rather than have group discussions. Group sessions offer a warm, inviting space that fosters relaxation virtually and provides examples of calming techniques and basic coping skills. Remember that the mind and body are one, and psychological health is just as important as physical health to your overall well-being.

The group sessions are free, confidential, anonymous, and virtual employees can call in from any phone. Group sessions include Monday Meditation, Mindful Mondays, Taking Care of Mind & Body, and Tending to Self. Please see the calendars for group session details and how to join.

Creating an effective Teaching portfolio

Dear faculty,

A teaching portfolio becomes most powerful when it moves beyond collecting documents and begins to tell a clear, evidence-based story of your growth as an educator. In this third session, faculty will explore how to translate teaching materials, student feedback, and reflective evidence into a coherent digital portfolio that highlights their teaching philosophy, practices, and impact.

Faculty will leave with practical ideas for digitally presenting their teaching story in a way that is organized, reflective, and aligned with their professional goals.
