Anthony Contello Passed Away

Body

After battling kidney cancer since August 2024, we regret to announce the passing of Anthony Contello, a longtime SUNY and Alfred State employee. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and his fiancée, Kate Meehan, who is also a member of the Alfred State community. The family plans to hold a "Celebration of Life" at a future date, which is not yet determined.

"We remember Anthony for his generosity, loyalty, and sense of humor. We’re grateful for his years with us and for his faithful support of the college. He built many close friendships on campus, and he will be deeply missed by those who knew him well," stated Julie Rose, Student Records and Financial Services Senior Director.

Anthony's extensive service to SUNY began in 2000, serving at Upstate Medical, Geneseo, and Empire, before coming to Alfred State in 2016. In his role as a program aide in SRFS, Anthony provided support and found the answers students and parents are seeking. His dedication to service made visitors to the office pleased that they had him as an advocate and an expert who was always eager to help them.

As previously announced, the family is holding a benefit event this Sunday in Canisteo at the Canisteo Legion. If you would like to contribute, donate, or purchase tickets, please contact Mary Catherine-Hyatt. Tickets will be available at 10 Elm or coordinated through Venmo @MaryCatherine-Hyatt. Admission is $15 for pre-sale and $20 at the door. More information about the event is on Facebook.

Your kindness and generosity during this time mean the world to Anthony's loved ones.
