Critical Decisions - Retirement & Healthcare Considerations for UUP Members
Whether you are a brand-new employee or very near to retirement, UUP members face critical decisions relating to retirement and healthcare. From pension system election to open enrollment, through understanding the value of sick days in retirement, every UUP member will encounter complex questions on these topics throughout their career. Where should UUP members turn for information? Whether you are currently facing such questions, or wish to plan for your future, UUP is here to help. Our NYSUT Labor Relations Specialist, Jamie Guilian, will be facilitating this workshop.
Registration helps us plan and closes at 4 PM on Tuesday April 29, 2025. Email Chapter Assistant Elaine (Burns) Ryan at BurnsEM@alfredstate.edu to reserve your spot. United University Professions Responds to Attacks on Higher Ed
It seems higher education across the US is facing political fallout from both federal and state governmental administrations. You should know that United University Professions is in the game for you, ALL staff and ALL students at ALL SUNY colleges. Though UUP as a union represents teaching faculty and professional staff, our work benefits all of SUNY. Visit the UUP press room website to get the latest information on how UUP is engaging with the turmoil.
https://uupinfo.org/communications/pressroom.php
UUP membership makes good things happen! We hope you will join UUP as a MEMBER if you're not already. A higher proportion of membership adds to our negotiating leverage for improving our work lives and benefitting SUNY as a whole. Membership is NOT automatic; check your pay stub and if you’re not already a member, you can sign up at http://uupinfo.org/join
Broadleaf Weed Control Application
Please be advised that our Grounds Department will be applying a broadleaf weed control treatment across various landscaped areas of campus beginning Monday, April 28. This is part of our regular maintenance to promote healthy turf and improve the appearance of our green spaces.
Important Notes:
- All areas that have been treated will be clearly flagged.
- We ask that everyone avoid walking or allowing pets in these flagged zones until signage has been removed, which will indicate the area is safe for use.
- The product being used is a standard commercial-grade herbicide applied by licensed professionals and poses minimal risk when guidelines are followed.
We appreciate your cooperation in helping maintain a safe and healthy campus environment. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the Facilities main office at 4750.

Are you a resident of Allegany County?
If you are a resident of Allegany County, they need YOUR help for their community health survey (also any student that attends ASC can complete the survey as well)! The survey is quite important as it is only conducted every 6 years now and is used to assess the needs of our community members across the county. The responses that are collected from the survey guide programming and suggests what are necessary interventions, several community organizations, schools, parks, and even churches depend on the data from this survey to support grant writing. The last day to complete the survey is May 1st, 2025. The link to access the survey is: https://form.jotform.com/250014735668155
If you have any questions, please contact Diane Davis at Diane.Davis@alleganyco.gov or by calling 585-268-5033
