Alfred State Pioneer Awards – Nominate a Great Employee!

The Pioneer Awards will be presented at the Annual Employee Recognition Celebration in May. Don’t miss this opportunity to recognize a terrific employee who goes above and beyond while demonstrating:

  • Commitment to and a positive impact on the college
  • Serving as a positive role model for the campus community
  • Consistently high levels of performance

Who Can Be Nominated?

Any current Alfred State employee who has worked at the college for at least two years and who has not received a Pioneer Award in the past five years.  The five award categories include Support Staff, Academics & Library, Maintenance & Operations, Non-Instructional Staff and a Wild Card.

Nomination Deadline: Monday, March 31, 2025 by 4:00 PM.

Spring Break Programming

We are excited to announce the programming that is going to be offered for those who are staying over Spring Break. 

We will have board games that will be out everyday in the Student Leadership Center for students to to enjoy.

Take Your Daughters and Sons to Work Day

We are pleased to announce that the annual Take Your Daughters and Sons to Work Day is scheduled for Thursday, April 10th, for the children and grandchildren of Alfred State employees, ages 8-13. The day will begin at 8:30am and feature demonstrations by faculty, staff, and students, along with games, activities, and tours of various campus areas. With 30 slots available, participation will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Each registered child will receive a lunch voucher for the Central Dining Hall, where they can enjoy lunch with their parent or grandparent; parents and grandparents are responsible for their own meals. Children are encouraged to bring an item for the food pantry.

Student Commencement Speaker Nominations

Nominations are now being accepted for Student Commencement Speakers.

Students, faculty, staff, or administrators may nominate candidates. The nominees must be graduating students who feel comfortable speaking to an audience and are representative of the graduating class within their school (SAS, SAMET). We plan to feature brief (3 minute) speeches by one student from each school. Students interested in representing SAT and Northland should contact their instructors to express interest.

UUP Members looking to manage Student Loan Debt?

Many UUP members qualify for free federal programs that can help reduce their monthly payments and eventually lead to student loan forgiveness. United University Professions and the American Federation of Teachers host monthly Student Debt Clinics which provide information on how to enroll in Income-Driven Repayment plans and Public Service Loan Forgiveness.  

UUP will be offering monthly virtual Members Only Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Clinics through the AFT website on the following dates:

Wednesday, March12, 2025 from 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM via Zoom.

Wednesday, March 22, 2025 from 5:00 PM – 6:30 PM via Zoom.

Grant Money Available for your Spring Bill

Alfred State College has been awarded funding through NYS for the Aid for Part-Time Study (APTS) grant for the 2024-2025 academic year.  Students may be eligible to receive up to $1,000 for the Spring semester. 

Part-time students may obtain an application online at https://www.alfredstate.edu/financial-aid/forms or by emailing sfs@alfredstate.edu.  

Students who received APTS funding for the Fall 2024 semester DO NOT need to submit another application for spring 2025.

Eligibility criteria include:

Matriculated student consistently enrolled between three (3) and eleven (11) credit hours per semester.

Enrolled in at least one full term course this semester.

New York State resident

Completed 2024-2025 FAFSA application

Meet satisfactory academic progress

Not receiving TAP or Part-Time TAP this semester

Applicants are required to submit a signed 2022 New York State Income Tax return for student (or parent if applicable) along with the signed APTS application.  Applications will not be reviewed until all documentation has been submitted and signed.

Forward the completed application and required tax forms to sfs@alfredstate.edu.  The deadline for the Spring 2025 semester is Friday, April 11, 2025.

Submission of an APTS application does not guarantee receipt of an award.  Students who are not eligible will receive an email through their Alfred State email account indicating the reason for ineligibility.

Megabus is offering non-stop bus services to New York City and Alfred for Spring break. Dates and times of bus travel are listed below! 

To New York City: 

Friday, March 7th departing from Orvis Activities Center or West University St at 7:45 a.m. and  2:30 p.m. 

Sunday, March 9 departing from Orvis Activities Center or West University at 7:45 a.m.

To Alfred, NY 

Friday, March 14th departing from Port Authority at 10:15am

Sunday, March 16th departing from Port Authority at 10:15am

Alternate bus options are available through https://trailways.com. Please note that Trailways bus leaves from Hornell, NY and you will need to find transportation to the bus station. 

Rochester Airport Shuttle 

Depart Alfred Saturday, March 8th at 6am 

Return trip departs Rochester Airport Sunday, March 16th at 5pm 

Requests for Airport Shuttle must be to the Rochester Airport and students will have to fill out the Online travel request form for both their trips to and from the airport.
